Date of Passing: Apr 20, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryW. R. (BILL) MCKAY William Robert McKay died peacefully with family by his side at Vista Park Nursing Home on April 20, 2015 at the age of 86. Bill is survived by his children, Janet (Brian) Rivet, Brad (Lori) McKay, and Barb (Peter) Lieske, grandchildren Jennifer, Christopher, Jessica, Nathan and Sarah and great-grandchildren Miles, Hudson, Zachary and Benjamin. He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret. Bill was born on June 6, 1928 in Sarnia, Ontario. He graduated from University of Toronto with a degree in civil engineering and began his successful career in Niagara Falls. This career carried him to Vancouver and finally Winnipeg, where he worked for Acres International. Dad was considered a "pioneer" with his knowledge of hydroelectric power plants and was well-respected in his field. One of Dad's passions was his cottage, where he spent many hours, especially after retirement, building, breaking, and fixing things to his satisfaction. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, his love of puns, and countless hours of cribbage with his family. Last but not least, Dad will be remembered for his exaggerated fishing stories, where the fish grew each time he relived these tales. Dad was very generous with his time, and was an active contributor to many charitable organizations. A private memorial service will be held at a later date with the family. A special thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Vista Park Lodge. A donation to the Alzheimer's Society can be made in lieu of flowers. Our condolences to my former workmates, Barb and Peter, and to the rest of Bill's family. It was always a pleasure to work in the office with Bill, starting with our early years in the 1950's in Niagara Falls, and again in Winnipeg for 19 more years. My family and I are very thankful to Bill for getting us out here to Winnipeg. His sense of humour, and his care and concern for everyone will never be forgotten. Bill was a fine gentleman. My condolences go out to his family. I have many fond memories of office life many decades ago with Bill. The qualities of Bill that I admired most were his compassion for his fellow workers and staff, and his ever-present sense of humour in times of stress and serious deliberations. We could always count on Bill to ease tensions with his great wit and humour. Rest in peace, Bill. - Posted by: Rick Carson (Worked for Bill in the Acres Winnipeg Office) on: Apr 27, 2015
