GERTRUD BUBENZER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrud Bubenzer (Oma) (Tante G) on May 4, 2015. She was born on December 10, 1934 in Alexandrie, Poland to Friedrich and Ida Westphal. Gertrud is survived by her daughter Annette Santilli (Angelo), her grandchildren Jennifer (Josh), Anna-Maria (Manny), Brandi (Peter) and Angelo (Samantha). She has seven great-grandchildren whom she adored with all her heart. Gertrud is also survived by her sister Agnes Smith (Richard), her nieces Cathy and Kristel (Joel) and her nephew Erik (Kathy) along with many great-nephews and great-nieces all of whom she cherished. Gertrud immigrated to Canada in 1951 where she worked at the Health Sciences Centre for over 25 years. She was a dedicated and loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was a wonderful example of faith, hope and charity. She is well known for her masterfully knitted blankets and needle point pictures or as she called it her handicraft. She had incredible precision when wrapping presents and was always months ahead when it came to buying gifts for any occasion. She always made time for her family and would always be the first person to any family gathering. Her never ending yet sometimes repeated stories will be greatly missed. She will always be in our thoughts and will forever be in our hearts. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Viewing will be available an hour before the ceremony starting at 9:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. • We met Gertrud many years ago during the time my family and I attended St. Peter's Church. We sang in the choir together and have wonderful memories of those days. Something very special that I will never forget was her cat, Sacha who she adored but had to give up as she was moving into an apartment. She offered him to me. I was hesitant at first but when she told me how very special and unique he was, I agreed. I never regretted my decision. Gertrud was very special too. My condolences to her family and loved ones at this time as they grieve this devastating loss but she has gone on to a better place. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Angela (friend) on: May 08, 2015
