GABRIELLA MARIE BOCKSTAEL It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Gabriella Bockstael, surrounded by her family, on Monday, May 11, 2015 after a brief illness at the Health Sciences Centre. Mom is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Doug) McMahon, son Derrick and grandchildren Kelsey and Owen. She is also survived by her sisters; Marguerite (Roger) Audette, Cindy (Bob) Bayer and Mariette (Bob) Bayer and many other close relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, parents Georges and Julia Deserranno and twin brother Gabriel. Gabriella was born November 10, 1937 in St. Boniface, where she attended St. Joseph's Academy before she began working at her parents store, Serranno's. She then went on to work for Weststeel as a comptometer operator for a number of years. Gabriella married Frank Bockstael on June 4, 1960 at the Belgian Sacred Heart Church and they were blessed with two children, Cheryl in 1961 and Derrick in 1964. Gabriella was a devoted mother and nanny and her selfless nature led her to be a natural caregiver to family and friends. She was a loyal and generous friend to many and was a life long volunteer at both the Belgian Club and the Belgian Sacred Heart Church until its closing in 1993. Mom will be missed by family, friends and all who knew her. Gabriella was an accomplished and competitive five pin bowler for years as well as an avid bingo player and bargain hunter extraordinaire. A special thanks to the staff of the Victoria General Hospital and also to staff at the Health Sciences Centre, floor 6, GH ward. In keeping with Gabriella's wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Avenue. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Gabriella's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Belgian Club Building Fund.
