VICTORINO NOMBRADO Victorino (Turing) Dela Sierra Nombrado peacefully passed away at Victoria General Hospital on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Victorino (aka Tata Turing) died at 86 and was predeceased by devoted wife and best friend, Puring Nombrado. He was a loving father, father-in-law and grandfather to the late Maria Teresita Nombrado and Faustino Falceso (John Vic and Jona-Lyn); Nora Nombrado Simon and Adrian Peters (Ariane Rose (Ryan) Bayle and Casey Leigh (Jonathan) Gutierrez; Rick and Favie Nombrado (Timothy Erick and Erika Ashley); Susan Victoria Nombrado and Herbert Makkink (Hélaina Allyza Victoria) of Switzerland; and Victor Nombrado (Nason Alexander Quinn and Tynan Archer Christopher). Great-grandpa to three special boys Anthony Alexander Bayle, Carter Juanito Bayle and Cristian Florencio Gutierrez. Dear to his parents (Alejo Nombrado and Esperanza Dela Sierra), brothers (Dadoy, Roque, Alfredo, Orencio, Peing, Diosdado), sister (Pasing), in-laws, nieces and nephews from Edmonton, Vancouver, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Georgia, Saudi Arabia, Wales and the Philippines (Pinas). He will be missed dearly by many including friends, godchildren and cousins around the globe. Our dad, Victorino (also known to many in Pinas as Tata Turing and Tatay to his grandchildren) was born in Palo, Tacloban, Leyte, Philippines. A graduate of the University of the Philippines on full scholarship and a schoolmate of Imelda Marcos at St. Paul's High School in Leyte. If anyone visited the MacArthur's monument in Tacloban, which is located at the exact spot of our dad's house, where he was born. The Philippine government bought our dad's property to erect a landmark to commemorate the beachhead landing of MacArthur's forces in the Second World War. MacArthur famously declared "I shall return". When MacArthur landed, a young 15 year old lad, Victorino Nombrado, stood awestruck in front of his house as MacArthur's forces came ashore - one of our dad's claim to fame. Throughout his life, Tatay put ahead of his own the needs of others. He was unselfish and helpful "barangay leader" of our Barangay in Camelot, Caloocan City. He was loved and respected in our community, and as children of Tata Turing, we felt very secure and famous within the community because we used to hear "huwag mong gagalawin sila, mga anak yan ni Tata Turing" ("Do not mess with them, they are Tata Turing's children"). He was known to many people as friendly, cooperative, funny and a happy-go-lucky man who rarely lost his temper. In 1980 together with his children, he joined his beloved wife in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was loving and caring grandfather and doted on three wonderful great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Lamay will be held today, Friday, May 15, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with service at 8:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Cremation will then take place and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Cemetery, 917 Archibald Street. Reception to follow at Coutu Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, friends and families may donate to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff of Victoria General Hospital. To the extended family, friends and everyone else who offered support to our family, thank you. Love thy Father and Mother no matter what, as you exist because of them. We love you, Tay.
