ELEANOR O. MCKENZIE It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eleanor O. McKenzie, wife of Donald R. McKenzie, on May 20, 2015 at St. Boniface Hospital. Eleanor was born August 4, 1928 in Toronto, ON, the only child of Harold E. and Olive Stewart. As a child she moved to Winnipeg with her parents where she attended Glenwood School and Lord Selkirk School. She graduated from United College in 1946 and later the Angus School of Commerce. In 1949 Eleanor married Donald R. McKenzie and their marriage was blessed with three sons, Robert, Bruce, and Scott. As a young mother Eleanor was the classic sports Mom accompanying each of her three sons, and often their team-mates, in their various sports activities, for practices and games throughout the seasons. There was no greater fan. Her interest and activities extended to school events as well. Eleanor was an ardent bowler and tennis player participating in the Uptown Bowling League and the Tuxedo Tennis Club for many years. Also, for more than 40 years she enjoyed her "girls" bridge club and the fun it provided. For many winters Eleanor enjoyed her winter home on Longboat Key, Florida, and her summer home on Lake of the Woods. In both places she greatly enjoyed welcoming family and friends. As her children grew older and married, grandchildren appeared, and great new joys were added to her life. Having sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren added to her happiness. Left to mourn her passing are husband Don, sons Robert (Margot), Bruce (Marcia), and Scott, grandchildren Kristy (Jeff), Pam (Mitch), Gregor, Erin, and Colin. Also missing her are her numerous four-legged friends who knew her as "Cookie Lady". Eleanor and Don travelled to many places in the world including Europe, Great Britain, Asia, Mexico, South America, as well as cruising. While travel was enjoyed there was always great joy in returning home to family and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and doctors at St. Boniface Hospital for their comfort, care, and compassion. At her request cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In her memory she has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
