NORMAN BLAINE BUCKBORO
Born: Apr 30, 1930
Date of Passing: May 20, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMAN BLAINE BUCKBORO It is with sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Norman Buckboro, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and good friend, on May 20, 2015 at Concordia Hospital, after a sudden and short illness. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sherry Lynn, his wife Catherine Ann (Kay), and his sister Jean Victor. He will be sadly missed by his sons, Scott, Glenn and Craig (Kitty), his grandchildren Sarah (Brad), Katie (Kyle), Jamie, Kristi (Cameron), and his great-grandchildren Grace, Jackson, Ivory and Sigrid. He is mourned by his brother Kel (Marg) Buckboro and family in Calgary, and many more family and friends in Winnipeg, Lac du Bonnet and Toronto. He will be missed and remembered by Grace Kost and her family, who generously included him in their family life in Lac du Bonnet. Norm was born in Winnipeg on April 30, 1930. He spent his many summers playing and working at Grand Beach. This included everything from delivering papers, to carrying baggage from the train station, to lifeguarding at the main beach. To one lucky, but foolish swimmer, he was known as the "Red-headed Angel". He later introduced the Buckboro and the Beaman kids to the Grand Beach experience. He had a varied career history with the Winnipeg Parks Board, W. J. Dyck and Co., T. Eaton Co., Robinson Little & Co., but in 1968 settled into a career with the Hudson Bay Co., working in store planning and development both in Northern Stores and the main urban stores. He retired in 1988, moving from Toronto to the community of Lac du Bonnet with his wife, Kay. He married Kay Todd in 1952, after courting her parents for a number of months while she was dating other guys. Apparently this worked for him. They lived very shortly in Saskatoon, but settled in Transcona in 1958. In 1972 he transferred with the Hudson Bay Co. Central Office to Toronto, but in 1988 moved to Lac du Bonnet where he remained until 2014, when he moved back to Transcona with his son Scott. He was a man who would rise to odd challenges, like running a high school race in June wearing a parka, hood and galoshes, canoeing to Grand Beach in May during a snow storm, and swimming Lake Winnipeg on a dare without training (he got about five miles). We'll miss you Dad. Safe journey home. Celebration of Norman's Life will be at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium, 1800 Day Street on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 204-224-1525

We had such great fun when my dad's buddy, Norm, and family came to visit us at the cottage. Dad had told us endless stories of his and Norm's escapades as young men growing up in Winnipeg. From driver's license tests to Grand Beach boardwalks, the shenanigans they shared were hilarious to hear about and their deep friendship was evident whenever they were together. We were profoundly sad to hear of his passing, but know that heaven is a happier place now that Norm has arrived. - Posted by: The Newcomb Clan (Longtime Family Friends) on: Jun 04, 2015

Uncle Norm ... A truly amazing, caring and fun to be around guy.. Always had a joke or story that made you laugh. He will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Craig, Scott and Glen and their families through this difficult time. - Posted by: Jeff Rentz (nephew) on: May 25, 2015

Your quirky ways, never ending jokes and larger than life smile was the best part of every memory I hold dear of every family function. You had a gentle and kind sole with a love for life and I will never forget the impression you have left in my life. I will miss and love you always. Norm and my father were brothers, but chose to spell the surname differently. When we were young our families would get together. I left Winnipeg and returned years later to find out my friend Ron Newcomb was best friends with Norm so our paths crossed once again. After Norm & family moved to Toronto and we moved to BC I would occasionally visit them when on business trips to Ontario. So over the years we have kept in touch. To Norm's family we are very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Gary Buckborough (Cousin) on: May 23, 2015
