Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAMAL MEHRA June 15, 1948 - May 22, 2015 The Mehra family is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Kamal Mehra. He is survived by his loving wife, Sudha Mehra and children, Divya, Sachit (Caroline), Anish (Sejal), Nitin (Melissa) and grandchildren. As a member of the Winnipeg community for the last 45 years, Kamal established and built a very successful business in doing what he loved, cooking great food, eventually founding the East India Company Restaurants. True to his nature Kamal endlessly contributed to the community around him and was an ambassador for Indian cuisine and culture in Canada. Landing in Vancouver in 1966, he would come to Winnipeg in 1967 and study engineering. He married Sudha in 1974 and remained a devoted partner for 41 years. We pray for Kamal's peace as he joins his Mother, Father and Brother. Please join us in celebrating Kamal Mehra's life at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Too soon, too sudden and too saddening to seem real. Real heartfelt prayers of condolences got out to Kamal's Family and friends. Kamal's pride and passion shone through ħim and his family, presenting the best cuisine they could lovingly prepare for each and every customer, who would soon become fans and devotees to his restaurants. Kamal and his wonderful family introduced me and my fellow Children's x-ray techs to the exquisite splendours of the finest Indian cuisine to be found anywhere. I fondly remember cutting my teeth on ever progressively intense and varied menu items. Kamal always respected novices' threshold for spiciness and taught us his Meerch Like Accord. Except one time, Duane and I will never forget when Kamal and Sudha launched the most exquisitely incendiary asbestos plate special to assault our Tenderfoot Tastebuds, while these two conspirees kept watch from the relative safety around the kitchen corner. I'm not sure who had the hardest time, the two of us trying to keep our heads from full nuclear meltdown or the two Calcutta culprits from laughing their heads off. I, like many customers, quickly became devotees to his impeccable offerings of food and will always remember this special man, restaurateur, son, husband, and father, and ambassador to the finest cuisine offered from India. - Posted by: Richard Hurd (Friend and Curry Padawan) on: Jul 02, 2015

We are saddened to hear of Kamal's death. He was gracious, kind and welcoming. Kamal and his family "adopted" Jim after his many frequent visits to East India Pub and Eatery starting back in their McDermot days. Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Sudha and children, Divya, Sachit (Caroline), Anish (Sejal), Nitin (Melissa) and grandchildren. Rest in Peace Kamal. - Posted by: Jim and Karen Wastasecoot (friends) on: May 26, 2015

Very saddened to hear of your loss. Mr. Mehra always had a unique smile anytime we would see him at the restaurant. In high school all of us would refer to Sachit's father as the "godfather" as the young teenage boys that we were would get into mischief and were humbled with a silent stare. My heart goes out to you Sachit and your entire family. Mrs. Mehra take comfort in knowing Mr. Mehra has left a lasting legacy to many. I am forever grateful to have known him and have taken many lasting long live lessons from you both. We were so truly sorry to hear of Kamal's sudden passing. All the years we talked of accompanying Kamal and Sudha to India and never got it done, really makes you realize you shouldn't put things off because things can change in an instant. We will always cherish Kamal's insight into spiritual matters, especially when he helped Cathy's father deal with his grief at the loss of his wife. Rest in peace, assured that your beloved businesses have been passed on to very capable hands, who share your strong business ethics. - Posted by: Bob and Cathy Stewart (long time business and personal friends) on: May 25, 2015
