Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBORIS DRUL September 1, 1934 - May 24, 2015 Boris Drul passed away peacefully with his family at his side on May 24, 2015 at the age of 80 years, at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by his loving sisters, Olecia Pitts, Martha Gawiuk and Leona Mitchell (Ken); sister-in-law Shirley Drul and brothers, Nestor (Anne) and Victor (Edda); numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Jessie Drul; his brother Dennis and brothers-in-law, Bill Gawiuk and Peter Pitts. Boris was born and raised on the family farm at Menzie, MB which he later inherited from his father and lived there most of his life. He attended St. Andrew's College in Winnipeg for the six week summer course. To earn extra money, he worked in the city as a handyman at the Empire Hotel in the winter and also was a cook's helper in Thompson, MB. Being one of seven children, there are many memories of picking strawberries, fishing, hunting for deer, catching gophers for one cent a tail, destroying crow's eggs, and going by horse and buggy or sleigh to Taras Shevchenko concerts at Menzie. With his cousin, Sam Kawa, he motored to Vancouver to visit Uncle Mike and Aunt Thelma Tesarski and then they motored to Los Angeles to visit his cousin Maurice and Beatrice Drul. Boris loved farming and was very active as a young man, playing softball and leading and dancing the Ukrainian "Arkan." He married Wanda Drewniak in 1978 and they lived on the family farm until 2002 when they built their home in Transcona. In January 2013 he was placed in Beaconhill Nursing Home. In December 2013, Boris spent Christmas with all his siblings and then lived with sister Martha until his demise. In his last year of life, he was able to spend a month with his sister Leona in Toronto where he attended his great-nephew's wedding on October 18, 2014. The family is most grateful for having him put in a nursing home, so his family had the opportunity to reconnect. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30 at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion St. Winnipeg, with Fr. Ivan Mostivsky officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Boris' memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. MEMORY ETERNAL VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
