PHILIPPE LUCIEN MARLEAU June 16, 1955 - May 23, 2015 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, and pépère. Philippe passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the St. Boniface Hospital following a long, courageous battle with cancer. Phil was predeceased by his father Lucien; his mother Isabelle; his sister Renée; his father-in-law Dennis; and mother-in-law Bernice. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Linda; son Sean (Kelly); daughter Dana (Craig); grandchildren Aria and Lyla; brothers Louis (Julie) and Marc (Shirley); sister Suzanne (Ken); brothers-in-law Victor, Alan (Eileen), and John (Marnie); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Phil will be greatly missed by all family, friends and neighbours. Phil was the second youngest of five children; he was a kindhearted, gentle person, who truly loved his family and friends. Phil was happiest at the lake and enjoyed various water sports. In his spare time, he also enjoyed building computers and keeping up with the latest technology. Phil started working as a firefighter in Whiteshell Provincial Park. He then began his career with MTS in the early seventies and spent many years working in Network Management with MTS Allstream. In 2012, he retired after 38 years of dedicated service. A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care who made Phil's final days comfortable and to all the staff at Health Sciences Centre and CancerCare Manitoba who worked with Phil during his battle with Glioblastoma. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Phil's memory to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. In keeping with Phil's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. • My sincere condolences to the family. I used to take the bus home daily with Phil years ago from work. He would always save a seat for me or vice versa. He had such a heart of gold, we talked about everything, he loved life and was very proud of his family. Will never forget him. - Posted by: Mitch Paquin (Former Co-worker) on: Oct 07, 2015

  • Philippe Lucien Marleau What a wonderful human being! Growing up; Phil was so full of life. Braver than most people I know; building rafts on the ditches of Windsor Park. Exploring pyro technics by inventing a canon and lobbing hunks of mud at a nasty neighbours fish pond 3 doors down. It got a little out of hand when a cherry tree was blown up and up rooted. Phil loved to explore Jessica Lake; fishing and hunting with his Dad and brothers. He was very kind hearted. Phil would give little David Coombes a lift on his shoulder while walking home from school; just like Tiny Tim from a Christmas Carol. Phil always seemed to find a new toy that he could ride, ski or sail on. Philippe loved to ride his motorcycle and would hit the trails exploring all over the Whiteshell. He was like Evil Kneival jumping his bike 20 ft or more in the air Philippe had the ability to make something out of nothing. He was so innovative. Very techy; he was an absolute perfectionist. Phil was super dedicated in anything he tackled. Phil married the love of his life and Linda truly was his universe. A great Dad; he would do anything for Sean and Dana. Phil could be goofy and make you pee yourself laughing with his antics. I remembered him using a pillow to make various characters like the pope or a Dutch maid. Philippe was so excited to be a PePere he hung with all his strength to see those beautiful babies Aria and Lyla. A husband, father, Pepere, brother, friend, uncle, mister mom, genius, athlete, entrepreneur to name a few; but this still does not encompass Phil. I always wondered why people would say how brave he or she was facing cancer. I really understood when Phil faced this dreadful disease. He fought so hard; with multiple operations to remove tumours and decrease swelling; deadly blood clots that required daily injections. He suffered with blindness; seizures that left him paralyzed on his left side, swallowing even became difficult. He endured radiation therapy with multiple sessions of chemo. Through all this; he never lost the ability to strive back or the optimism to push on. He loved life so much and in the end appreciated every moment good or bad. Philippe grew; with this experience and became a better human being. He succeeded in making new friends and “loving everyone up” as he would say. Phil was not afraid of moving on. He knew in his heart that life force was significant and would exist somehow or someway. The world is a sadder place without Philippe Lucien Marleau. I will remember Phil and his million dollar smile and being so classy right to the end. He will be on the water barefooting, skiing or sailing; anticipating calm water or the perfect wind. I’m so proud and blessed to say; he was my brother! - Posted by: marc marleau (brother) on: May 29, 2015
