HAROLD ERWIN GUTKNECHT November 7, 1926 - May 28, 2015 With sadness we announce the passing of Harold at Victoria General Hospital. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Phyllis (nee Haines), his children Alan (Digna Tiopo, deceased), Donna Lobay (Bill, deceased), James and Gordon, grandchildren Deanna (Richard Bruce), Christina (Kenneth Jackson), Andrea (Cyrille Crapoulet), Justin and Bryce. Great grandchildren Tyler, Cody, Brent, Chantel, Samantha, William, Kyla, Connor, Matthew, Dylan, Jessica and Katrina. He was predeceased by his parents Olga and John, brothers Otto, Herb and sister Shirley Boone. He is survived by sisters Violet Dyck and June Wiebe. Harold was born in Brunkild, raised in Birds Hill, Manitoba. Phyll and Harold met at work in 1947 and were married in 1949. Harold worked many odd jobs before being hired at Advocate Printers by Richard Bonnycastle which became LGM Graphics, where he worked for 43 years in the bindery, then proofreading, through to finishing his career as production co-ordinator. He was a member of Printing House Craftsmen Club, helped build Pembina Curling Club, of which he was a long term member and President. He volunteered helping seniors prepare their income taxes and was Block Captain of Neighborhood Watch in River Heights; lifelong master of cribbage at Fort Rouge Leisure Center, Fort Garry Legion and work hours lunchtime. He enjoyed watching football and especially hockey, sitting on the edge of his seat completely enrapt. Harold will always be remembered with the Free Press in his hands, waiting to be initialed when completed (just like he did at work). An extreme perfectionist and good natured teaser of all those around him by making wildly inappropriate comments. He was a man of high moral values, and the head of a large loving family. A big Thank You to all those involved with Harold's Compassionate care and comfort over the last couple months at the Vic. "Thanks for the Memories" A private family funeral service will be held.
