GERALDINE MARGARET JOHANNSON (nee DEWAR) With her family by her side, Geraldine Margaret Johannson (nee Dewar) passed away peacefully at Selkirk General Hospital on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. Geraldine was a resident of Selkirk her whole life, growing up on McLean Avenue and then moving to Sutherland Avenue to her home with her husband Barney. Mom liked to travel and was an avid reader and walker. She felt that her walking gave her a good perspective to observe the place she lived in all of her life. It was with great pride she watched the town she grew up in become the city it is today. Geraldine maintained and cherished friendships she made when she was very young and kept throughout her life. She was a dedicated lifelong member of Christ Church Anglican and was blessed with friends that shared her faith. Gerry also enjoyed the friendships she made playing duplicate bridge both in her home and at the Selkirk Bridge Club of which she was an accomplished member for many years. Even with all of her friendships and accomplishments, her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Precious memories of our dear Mom and Uma will be cherished by her children Larry (Charlotte) and Geri-Lynn (David); her grandchildren Larry Neil (Karlene), Kyle (Tarya), Natalie (Adam), Erik, Clinton (Lindsay) and Vincent (Sara); and her great-grandchildren Larissa, Ashley, Cooper and Tucker Johannson, Aiden and Jaya McConnell, and Liam Thompson. Dido will be lovingly remembered by her sister Doris (Dot) Stewart and special nephews Jack, Rob and Neil. She will be greatly missed by her special friend Leo Johnson, extended family and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bjorn (Barney), parents Arthur and Mary Dewar and brothers Roy, Stephen and Gordon. She truly loved Selkirk and the community loved her and her loyalty to it in return. Our family is grateful for the care, services and support mom received from the good people at Selkirk General Hospital, Cancer Navigation Services, CancerCare Manitoba, IERHA Home Care and Palliative Care, and Canadian Cancer Society. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity close to your heart.
