PETER STEPHEN TWERDUN It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Stephen Twerdun announces his sudden passing on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the age of 72 years. Peter was born in the RM of Rossburn, Manitoba in 1942. He was a meat-cutter by trade, and worked at Canada Safeway until his retirement, after 31 years of service, in 2002. Peter was an active and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for over 20 years. He was also an accomplished fiddle player, and was proud to have shared his talent with the patrons of the Ukraine Kiev Pavilion for the past two decades. His favourite pastime, however, was spending time with his grandchildren. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Bernice, his children, Darryl (Wendy), and Richard (Michele), his grandchildren, Wyatt and Alyssa, his sisters, Jean and Alice (Reuben), and his brother, Deacon Leon Twerdun (Olga). Peter will also be remembered by his numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Peter was preceded in death by his daughter, Karyn, who died in infancy in 1972, as well as his parents, Frederick and Mary, and his brother-in-law, Bill. Requiem Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie St., with Very Reverend Father Mark Gnutel officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. Those who so desire donations in memory of Peter may be made to a charity of one's choice. • I first got to know Peter in 1974 as I was hiring and doing vacation schedules for the meat cutters. I met him several times during store visits and found him very out going and pleasant person. He was a professional or as we say in the trade, a journeyman meat cutter. It was a pleasure to have him working for Safeway as I never received a complaint on his work. Peter came to work each day and did his job in a professional manner. One has to realize that Safeway set high standards and Meat Department Managers likewise set high standards as they wanted to qualify for their quarterly bonuses. Peter met these high standards. Sorry to see you go, Peter. - Posted by: colin dederick (Fellow Safeway employee) on: Jun 07, 2015
