So very sorry to hear of Lanette's passing. She was one of the reps. I worked for at CUPE. She took me under her wing and am very grateful for all she taught me. We become good friends and invited me to her home, cottage, and luncheons. A very special person and will be sadly missed. RIP Lanette ... till we meet again some sunny day! I have known Lanette since the late 1970s when I was her pastor at St. Ignatius Church in Winnipeg. At that time she was Lanette Kusmack and sometimes I would slip up and call her by that name and she would be annoyed, and rightly so. This did not interfere with our friendship which has perdured. I greatly respect her gentleness but also her determination and toughness, especially facing long and painful health challenges. I would walk over from the Jesuit cottage at Winnipeg Beach every summer to have an abundant lunch and a walk near the lake. My great regret is that I will not be able to concelebrate at her funeral Mass on June 11th. This is because I am presently in the West African republic of Liberia which is just now recovering from a terrible epidemic of Ebola. But I will be with you in the Spirit. These past days after I have heard of her death I have been grieving and remembering. - Posted by: Father John Perry, SJ (Friend) on: Jun 09, 2015

Lanette, you were the best mother-in-law I could ever have hoped for. You welcomed me into your family with open arms. You were always there for us when we needed advice with your words of encouragement, your strength and your positive attitude. You will always be a true inspiration to us. You lived your life to the fullest and you made many memories and friends along the way. Lanette loved her career at CUPE. She made many lifelong friendships with her colleagues. She had many fond memories of time spent together which she cherished. You weren’t just her friends - she considered you her family. Summers were spent at her cottage at Winnipeg Beach – Having friends over for the legendary “Bash on Ash”, Saturday morning garage sales, playing cards, playing piano, walks on the boardwalk and relaxing afternoons spent reading in her veranda. She was happiest when she was entertaining friends and family. She was a fabulous hostess who always made her guests feel welcome – the more the merrier! She always made decadent desserts, especially her Tia Maria Torte. Lanette enjoyed her travels to Las Vegas, Florida, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Cayman Islands. She also enjoyed her road trips to BC to visit her daughter Heather and family. Lanette had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling stories of her adventures with friends and family. She cherished each and every one of you. She enjoyed movie nights and get togethers with her girlfriends. She will now be reunited with her family and friends who have gone before her and her beloved dogs Champ and Duncan. Lanette you will be dearly missed and fondly remembered with love by all who were fortunate enough to have known you. We love you and will miss you but we will carry you in our hearts forever until we meet again. - Posted by: Sharon Kusmack (Daughter In Law) on: Jun 09, 2015

Lanette was always a most gracious hostess. The 'Bash on Ash' at Winnipeg Beach was a tradition for many years and enjoyed by so many. Lanette was soft-spoken but had a great sense of humour which she maintained to the very end. Her warmth and wit will be missed. Rest in peace Lanette, we love you. - Posted by: Denise and Rick Keep (Friends) on: Jun 09, 2015
