JOANNE MCGIFFIN (nee FREEMAN) In the early hours of June 8, 2015 an angel left us to join her father, Helgi Freeman, mother, Kathleen Freeman and her sister, Maureen McDonald. Joanne had a five year courageous battle against cancer but lost peacefully with her family comforting her in her final days and hours. Joanne will be sadly missed by her many relatives and friends but especially by her husband, Douglas and her children: Christopher, Jeri-Anne (Lance), Heather (Gregory) and Michael as well as her grandchildren: Derek, Trevor, Nicholas, Chelsea, Jaxon, Jacob, Maxwell, Hayley, Trevor and Timothy. Joanne is also survived by her mother-in-law, Clara Brickman and siblings: Janice (Ernie), Edwin (Teri), Pamela, Diane (Mike), and Darlene (Frank). Also missing Joanne are her brother-in-law, Ralph (Joy) and sister-in-law, Patricia and many nieces and nephews. Joanne was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba on June 4, 1952 and spent her early years in Gypsumville. She moved to Winnipeg in 1959 and attended Greenway, General Wolfe and Tec Voc Schools where she made many friendships. Joanne and Doug were married in 1969 and moved to Nova Scotia for five years returning to Winnipeg in 1974. Joanne was employed by Prairie Equipment for close to thirty years and was the General Manager of Prairie Equipment at her retirement in 2004. All through her life Joanne influenced other people's lives with her caring and giving demeanor. She could never find fault in anyone and always saw their good side. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and spent hours talking with and about them. Nana loved spending time with family, watching and playing with her grandchildren, preparing family dinners and listening to music spending a relaxing evening with family. Joanne will always be remembered for her unending dedication to family and friends, her kindness to everyone and her infectious sense of humor. In her retirement years Joanne enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and watching the sunsets over Lake Manitoba on hot summer evenings at her St. Laurent home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph Wong and all the staff of Cancer Care at the St. Boniface Hospital who assisted Joanne in her journey. If friends so desire please give donations to Cancer Care MB in Joanne's name. We all have many fond memories of Joanne and will miss her dearly but we can all feel richer in life by being touched by this beautiful angel. Rest well Joanne and we know you are still looking out for each and every one of us. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

I went to General Wolfe and Tec Voc with Joanne and will always remember her beautiful smile and kind, gentle spirit. She was LOVELY! Was fortunate enough to reconnect when she & Doug visited the Domes several years ago. My heart goes out to all her family as you grieve her absence. Joanne was a beautiful person, a person who was willing to help in anyway, at anytime. She was someone I looked at many times and wished I could be more like. She had kindness, understanding, forgiveness, energy and so much more all wrapped up together in that one courageous person. You will be forever missed but always remembered Joanne. Rest know! - Posted by: Jacqueline Donahue (Doug's cousin ) on: Jun 10, 2015

Josie...you have been there almost all my life. You were my "Sister" and my very dear Friend. You taught me so much. Everything from how to plant poppies to how to dry curl your hair and you explained they were "magic" curlers. Even though we were 1600 miles apart, we were close and we instantly reconnected whenever we got together. We had such good times together. I swear I laughed nearly 95% of all my laughs with you and Doug. I will miss your sweetness and friendship so much. Until we meet again... - Posted by: Patti (sis-in-law) on: Jun 10, 2015
