ROY JOHN (JACK) VERBRUGGE KN.C It is with great sadness that Roy's family announces his passing on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Victoria General Hospital. Roy was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, daughter, Suzanne (Ted) and son James, all of Winnipeg. He is also survived his sisters Joan Barltrop (Chris) of Toronto and Heather Van Holderbeke (Gabriel) of Courtenay, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy, the son of Jack Verbrugge and Meta (Hornbeck) of Balmoral, Manitoba, was born on September 28, 1933 in Stonewall, Manitoba. He lived on the family farm until moving to Winnipeg, where he worked for the City of Winnipeg until retirement. He had many interests such as bowling, square dancing and ballroom dancing, gardening, reading and sports, and was an avid Goldeyes fan. Roy was especially proud of his volunteer work with St. John Ambulance, first as a Serving Brother, then a Life Member. He served as President and Provincial Commissioner and received the Order of the Maple Leaf and White Cross, as well as becoming a Knight Commander of the Order of St. John. A most wonderful achievement in Roy's life was a nearly 63 year marriage to Eileen, who he married on October 25, 1952. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery. Our family gratefully acknowledges the care and assistance of the staff of the Victoria General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Roy's name to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Avenue. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I remember Jack quite well. He was always making himself available to assist at the City of Winnipeg Retirees Association. He made phone calls, served chili after tours, was the head chef on occasion for Hot Dog Day. Thanks Jack you are missed. - Posted by: Jack Robson (friend) on: Jun 13, 2015
