RUTH BOROWSKI It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Borowski (nee Mitchell) at age 96, peacefully at the West Park Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 16, 2015. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Michael Borowski (1988), and her son Thomas (1980). She is survived by her daughter Carole Stewart, her sons Irwin and Robert (and his wife Linda), and her grandchildren, Alison and Caroline Stewart, John Borowski, and Eric and Christopher Borowski. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Ruth also leaves behind her "second family", Helen (nee Newton) and Don Ross, their children Karlie, Kerry, and Spencer, and their children, who fondly referred to Ruth as Grandma, much to Ruth's delight. The Ross family has lovingly attended to Ruth's needs these last many years, especially since Michael passed away. The immediate family is immensely grateful for all they have done for Ruth. Ruth, the fifth child of Irwin and Margaret Mitchell, was born in Roblin, Manitoba on December 16, 1918. The last surviving member of the family, Ruth was predeceased by her brother Graham, and her sisters Gladys, Jean, and Lillian, the "Mitchell girls". Ruth lived and worked in Roblin until marrying Michael in 1945, after which they moved to Winnipeg to start Michael's law practice. Ruth worked as Michael's legal secretary while also raising her family. Ruth's greatest sources of happiness were her family and friends, playing bridge and the many small children who have visited her over the years. She will be missed by many. A private interment will be held, followed by a Celebration of Ruth's Life on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard in Winnipeg, Manitoba. All Ruth's relatives and friends are welcome to attend. The family would also like to thank the staff at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their kind and excellent care of Ruth in the years she was a resident there, and in particular the period immediately prior to her passing. I came across this obit trying to locate Dr. Irwin Borowski Ruth's son. Michael and Ruth Borowski were long-time friends of my Grandmother Lily Tofting Bruce, which is how Ruth became my aunt. In 1980, not long before Dominion Day, my grandmother took me to Winnipeg for summer vacation and to meet other family members, which is when I met Ruth and Michael. They had a billiards table in the basement and Uncle Michael taught me to play. One day, I met their son Irwin and I believe his fiance, they took me to go see Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Unfortunately, I messed up the rest of the day because I developed a massive migraine so it cut the day short. Irwin took me back to my grandmother and Auntie Ruth where Irwin at the time was a medical student. I'm hoping to get in touch with Irwin after 38 years and Thank him, I remembered hallucinating and the pain I was in. His credit for my migraine was a frozen face cloth on my forehead and I still use it till this day. - Posted by: Andrew Johnson (Formerly Drew Tofting) (Nephew) on: Apr 04, 2018

I accidentally came across the obit while looking online for someone else in Winnipeg as I live in Saskatoon. The name conjured up fond memories of growing up in the Aubrey Lipton neighborhood and spending time with the occasional lunch at the Borowski home. Sad to see this generation leaving us as my mother passed a few years ago. Makes one realize how short life is. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Ron Styles (Former neighbor and childhood friend of Irwin) on: Jul 05, 2015
