STANLEY EVANYSHYN It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband and father on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Stanley will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Olga (Ollie); daughters Cathy and Teresa. Also mourning his passing are his sister-in-law Hope Evanyshyn; many nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends. Stanley was predeceased by his parents Michael and Tena (nee Lazaruk) Evanyshyn; brothers Bill (William) and Murray; sister-in-law Noni; and in-laws George and Katherine (nee Koncur) Holowaty. Stanley was born on June 15, 1932 in Shoal Lake, MB, the youngest of three boys, and was raised farming in the Rossburn vicinity near Olha and Marco. The family moved to the town of Oakburn in 1939 and there he completed high school. After attending Normal School, Stanley was a schoolteacher in 1948 at age 16 teaching in Elk Ranch North of Neepawa. Moving to Brandon he worked at the MTS and then shifted gears to broadcasting taking a job at CKX. In 1951 Stanley moved to Toronto and soon found employment with CKFH Mr. Hockey Night in Canada. Shortly thereafter he applied at CBC Toronto as a Radio Technician and worked on broadcasts of the Happy Gang Variety Show, CBC Radio Dramas and Ivan Romanoff. In 1957 Stan transferred to CBC Radio in Winnipeg. In February 1958 Stanley met the love of his life, Olga Holowaty. They were married at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church on September 6, 1958. Settling in East Kildonan they raised their family. They were blessed with two precious daughters Catherine (Cathy) and Teresa. Stan's career in radio broadcasting took him in many different directions and presented many interesting opportunities. In 1968 Stan recorded Lenny Breau's first record album in Nashville. He worked with Glenn Gould, Olga Pavlova, Juliette, Ed Evanko, CBC Radio Dramas and the Winnipeg children's music program Tuneful Tales' to name a few. The highlight of Stanley's career came in 1970 when he was asked by the Canadian Government to represent Canada to teach broadcasting in Africa. Radio was just being introduced to Africa where Stan spent several months in Ghana. This was an opportunity of a lifetime. Other notable work experiences included Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, Summer Olympics in Montreal, Pan Am Games, Calgary Stampede, Morris Stampede, Pope John Paul II visit to Winnipeg in 1984, and of course, Dauphin Festival. He recorded the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra for 25 years and worked very closely with Maestro Piero Gamba. After 35 years at CBC Radio Stan retired in 1987 - freedom 55! From the start of their marriage, Stan and Ollie travelled extensively. Beginning with their honeymoon to Toronto in 1958, Yellowstone in 1959 during the big quake, and many family vacations which included Expo '67 in Montreal, BC thru the Rockies, the Black Hills, California and Disneyland, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and many weekend get-aways. After retirement they became snow birds travelling south yearly to Texas and Arizona, but their favourite was Palm Springs. Their trip of a lifetime came when they went to Ukraine in 1990 and visited with Ollie's family. Buying a cottage north of Gimli, many enjoyable summers were spent there. Stanley was proud of his Ukrainian heritage and Ukrainian Catholic church. He was an active member of Holy Eucharist Parish for over 55 years serving on parish council, sat on many boards, devoted time working at Bingo; and was an avid perogy maker. Stan was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Budka Council where he served as Grand Knight, later transferring to Holy Eucharist Council as a charter member serving as Grand Knight, and was a member of the Fourth Degree Canon Luhovy Assembly. Stan was a member of the UCBC of Holy Eucharist serving as President, and he received the Order of the Knights of St. Volodymyr the Great. He was member of Holy Eucharist Seniors Club and a member of Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers for many years. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Terry Babick for his medical care and friendship. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Watt Street at Munroe Avenue. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Donations in Stanley's name may be made to a charity of one's choice. You will be greatly missed, always loved, and never forgotten. Vichnaya Pamyat. Forever in our Memory. May you rest in peace. • Sincere condolences to the family of Stan. I met Stan in 1963 when I first was hired by the CBC in Winnipeg. I came from private tv and was hired on by CBC Radio. Stan and a couple of other sound technicians had the job of familiarizing me to CBC standards and operating proceedures. Stan was always very patient and totally professional in his training methods and his 'ear' for sound was outstanding. He was one of a small group of CBC Winnipeg Radio audio pros who were called upon to do very challenging and demanding sound recordings from symphony to drama to pop music. CBC Winnipeg Radio was the first CBC location to do stereo broadcasting on FM and Stan was at the heart of it. His accomplishments are huge.
