J. GABRIEL DUFAULT Born September 26, 1941 Died June 18, 2015 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gabriel, our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. He was the son of Alphonse and Anna Dufault. He leaves his wife Jeannine and two children, Lucille Dufault and Pierre Dufault along with his spouse Sheila Haas-Dufault, and his grandchildren, Marie-Anna Dufault Rae, Jean-Pierre and Riel Dufault. He also leaves siblings, Jeannette and her spouse Ben, Leo and his spouse Daryl, and Jocelyn and her spouse Hersh. You were a kind, strong and good man to your family. We don't know if we'll know another like you. You gave so much love to your family, friends, community and animals. Your generosity and compassion radiated every room you entered. Know that you left this world loved. We hope to see you again someday, maybe in the Sahara desert, where a little prince will come from a little asteroid and ask us to draw him a sheep. A prayer service for family and close friends will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. Desjardins 204-233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

J. GABRIEL DUFAULT Born September 26, 1941 Died June 18, 2015 "Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop." He was the son of Alphonse and Anna Dufault. He leaves his wife Jeannine and two children, Lucille Dufault and Pierre Dufault, his grandchildren, Marie-Anna Dufault Rae, Jean-Pierre and Riel Dufault. He also leaves siblings, Jeannette and her spouse Ben, Léo and his spouse Daryl and Jocelyn and her spouse Hersh. He will be missed by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and most especially by many good friends and respected colleagues. Gabriel was particularly proud to be part of the Provencher School Cadet Corp and began his social contribution as early as 1950 with his dedicated participation in the Scouts and other youth movements. His career in the financial and insurance fields spanned many years. He was a staunch advocate of the Credit Union and Caisse Populaire community building philosophy. In his retirement, he expressed his great love of all things green as a freelance landscaper. His love of the outdoors was culminated with a trail being named in his honour in the Spirit Woods in South St. Vital. His community building activities continued through his volunteer work with the Folk Arts Council (Folklorama), where his open and inclusive spirit and exuberance shone brightly. He worked tirelessly, in many capacities for many community groups. His greatest passion was his work with the Metis community, especially throughout his presidency of Union National Métisse St. Joseph du Manitoba. We've lost a great advocate for the Metis cause, both on the provincial and national levels. Throughout his life, Gabriel was a passionate and dedicated family man, bestowing to his children the happiest of childhoods and to his wife a most loving marriage. He will be missed. Funeral service will be held at the St. Boniface Cathedral, Friday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. Further details available through Desjardins Funeral Home, 357 Des Meurons Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3H 2N6. Jeannine - I am very sorry to learn of Gabe's passing ... I just today came across this obit. I got to know Gabe when I was a young teenager, while "hanging out" with you back in our folk-dancing era. I wish I had recognized and appreciated Gabe's kind interest in my life, even though it was full of typical adolescent self-centered drama. Looking back, I realize now that whenever our paths crossed, he always took the time to check in with me, and I always came away from our conversations (however brief) feeling just a bit better. Blessings to you, Lucille, and Pierre. - Posted by: Joanne Stefanyshyn (nee Hunt) (friend (from long-ago)) on: May 02, 2021

My deepest condolences to Gabriel's family. I was saddened to hear of Gabriel's passing. He believed in helping those who faced adversity in life; through his work at the Indian & Metis Friendship Centre, his knowledge and sharing of Metis history and translation from French to English, and generous sense of humor. I enjoyed working with him and am grateful for knowing him. - Posted by: Alvin Chartrand (friend) on: Jun 26, 2015

He grace and jubilant personality will forever remain inscripted in my memory. - Posted by: Jeffrey Betker (Friend/Colleague) on: Jun 25, 2015
