STACEY DARLENE BOULANGER (nee LEGGE) Stacey Darlene Boulanger (nee Legge) passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Health Sciences Centre. Born April 19, 1947 in Newmarket, ON. Stacey is survived by her husband of 46 years, Sil Boulanger; daughter Juliane (fiancé Davide); son Trevor (Shannon); beloved grandson Colton; and granddaughter Evan, who brought great joy to her. She also leaves to mourn, her brother Randy (Eli), many nieces and nephews, a large extended family, as well as many close friends, including her close girlfriends since childhood, Lynne Westlake and Peggy MacIvor. Stacey was a wonderful wife, mother and Nana. Stacey spent her early years in Newmarket, ON. After graduating teachers college in 1968, she made the bold move to begin her teaching career in Big Trout Lake, ON, where she met a young bush pilot. Stacey and Sil were married June 28, 1969 in Big Trout Lake, surrounded by many new friends. After moving around several small communities in Northern Ontario, they had a young family and moved to Thompson, MB, where Stacey began raising her family. In 1981, the family was on the move again to Winnipeg and Stacey went back to work as an early childhood educator at Horizons Daycare. Stacey and Sil travelled regularly in those years to the Caribbean, where she enjoyed the sun and the beaches. After retiring from Horizons in 1997, Stacey spent her days lounging by the family pool and taking care of the family home. Stacey and Sil spent many years wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona, where they enjoyed a very active social life and a close network of friends. Stacey was a wonderful woman who enjoyed playing many sports as a child and into her adult life...ice hockey, field hockey, baseball, tennis...there were not many sports that she did not try or succeed in. She even won a trophy racing snowmobiles in her days in the north. Stacey was a voracious reader and went through books faster than the library could supply her; often re-reading books two or three times. As well-read as she was, her breadth of knowledge was incredible and she was often the one people turned to for answers before the internet. Stacey was not only smart and open-minded, but she was incredibly kind and tolerant, treating everyone she met with respect for as long as they deserved it. She welcomed everyone with a hug, even those she just met. Stacey's heath had declined in recent years but she always put on a brave face. She would never show or share how much pain she was in, but those close to her knew how hard these last few months have been on her. Her family and friends would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the many doctors and health care professionals for their assistance over these last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Arthritis Society of Manitoba.

  • I will always remember Stacey and her smile - it was like a beacon of light to all. She certainly was warm and loving and suffered in silence, not letting people know how she really felt. She was so stoic in her suffering and now she is finally at peace. Unfortunately, I never really had a chance to get to know her very well as by the time Sil and her were married, I was living in California and saw them only rarely over the years on family visits. And yet she always greeted me warmly every time we met. May God bless her soul and comfort Sil in his grief. - Posted by: Marita Bugado (sister-in-law) on: Jun 21, 2015
