DOREEN ROSE KNOEDLER (BAKER) November 21, 1941 - June 17, 2015 With deep sorrow the family announces the sudden passing of Doreen Knoedler at the age of 73. She passed away at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by her family. Doreen was predeceased by her loving parents Fred and Frances Baker, brothers-in-law, Hans Steinleiner and Jerry Ricer. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Andrew and Frederick, daughter-in-law Amelia, granddaughter and namesake Teeka Rose, her fur baby Kola who was her special "little boy" and her grand fur baby Kasha; her sisters Jane Steinleiner, children Diana (Rick), Liane and Robert and Frances Ricer, children Marie, Jill, Theresa and David, her best friend Faith Gibson, and her many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Doreen was born in Bissett, Manitoba on November 21, 1941. She was a beloved Baking Instructor at Patal Vocational School where she taught her passion for baking to her students who considered her to be a second Mom. Doreen enjoyed knitting and crocheting, baking, spending time in the backyard sitting in the gazebo looking at the flowers, walking her dog and was famously known for her sweet tooth. She also enjoyed going to the Casino with her sisters, this was a special birthday tradition that they shared for many years. Doreen had a special bond with her daughter-in-law and her family who included Amelia's Mom Alice, sisters Ven and Marisa, their spouses and children. The family would like to say a special thank you to Peter and Diane Knoedler for the help and support they have provided us, and to Terry Sakiyama and the students of Patal Vocational School. She had a smile, a pleasant way, a helping hand to all she knew. Funeral services will be held June 27, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association in Doreen's honor.

  • We left Bisset in the late 50's so didn't know Doreen in the later years but are good friends of her sister Frances & have been fortunate to have seen Jane several times. Frances phoned to let us know of their tragedy & to tell us of the impact Doreen had made on so many lives! It was wonderful the joy of learning she had given to the lives of so many students in her culinary classes. She went in peace knowing she would be with her Mom & Dad. The July celebration of Frances's birthday will not be the same as they always spent it together. She will be missed & will be so lovingly be remembered. - Posted by: Joanne Wilson(Ash) & Konstantyn Trus (Bissett friends) on: Jun 24, 2015

  • Doreen was a wonderful person and I am happy to have had the privilege to be a part of her life even if it was for a short time. ( School ) Doreen was kind and had such a wonderful impact on my son Gavin. He loved to come with me to class so he can be spoild with Doreens baked treats. My family and I are sorry for your loss and keep you in our prayers. This is something that brought me peace when I lost my brother and I hope it does the same for you. Light a candle for those we mourn. Into a new life they will be born. Do not look for them at the gravesite. They are somewhere else radiating their beautiful light. They have gone to a new world where there is no darkness, no pain. Their light and essence will always remain. Light a candle for those who have left this mortal place. They are free to travel through time and space. When we think of them, they are near. When we sit in a beautiful garden. Their voices we hear. When we listen to a divine symphony, We close our eyes, their faces we see. Light a candle for they have not really gone. With each flickering flame, in your hearts they will always belong. Rest in peace Doreen. - Posted by: Eve Rose (friend) on: Jun 22, 2015

  • A tribute to a special woman Doreen Knoedler Everything my grandma does is something special made with love. She takes time to add the extra touch that says, "I love you very much." She fixes hurts with a kiss and smile and tells good stories grandma-style. It's warm and cozy on her lap for secret telling or a nap. my grandma's arms are filled with love! What could be more precious than Grandma's special love? She always seems to know the things That we are fondest of. She's always ready with a smile Or a loving word of praise, Her laughter always brightens up The cloudiest of days... She has an understanding heart that encourages and cheers. The love she gives so freely Grows deeper with the years. Her wisdom and devotion are blessings from above- Nothing could be more precious than Grandma's special love. I love you grandma will miss you - Posted by: Tiffany Moxam (loving niece) on: Jun 22, 2015

  • Doreen was one of the most AMAZING people I have had the chance to call family. Better known as Auntie Doreen to my son and I. She was so loving, caring and truly one of a kind. I am so glad that I got to experience her love first hand. She was an amazing baker. She made the most amazing cookies and cakes and you could definitely tell she put love into them. My heart truly hurts. Her memory will live on forever through the stories her children, family and students. She was such a blessing. I wish I had more time with her. She is now watching over us all. Fred, Amelia,Andrew and Sweet baby Teeka we are so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Krystal (Family) on: Jun 22, 2015
