HYLKE (IKE) FEENSTRA March 2, 1930 - July 4, 2015 After a brief illness, Hylke (Ike) Feenstra, of Dufrost, passed away at DeSalaberry Hospital on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at the age of 85. Dad was born in a windmill in Oudorp, North Holland, Netherlands, on March 2, 1930. He arrived in Canada with his young family on July 1, 1952. Although the family moved many times and Dad held many different jobs, the one he was most passionate about was long distance truck driving; he was very proud of all of his accident free miles and could tell many stories of all the places he had seen. In his retirement, Dad loved to spend time at the gym, ice fishing, and especially gardening. No one could leave the house without going out to see his garden, his prize-winning pumpkins in particular. Dad is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jikke, children George (Barbara), Eva, Maynard, Betty (Alex), Rita (Garry), Gary (Connie), Rick (Suzanne), Robert (Josie), and Kim (Taras), grandchildren Steven, Karen, Michael, Jennifer, Mark, Kris, Vincent, Ryan, Sarah, Michael, Amanda, Brent, Heath, Reed, Marcel, Clayton, Jordan, Ashley, Jessica, Corey, Kendra and Kurtis; great-grandchildren Brett, Kyle, Jordan, Chloe, Zachary, Matthew, Emma, Malcolm, Aiden, and Sawyer. He is also survived by his one sister Akke, brother-in-law Klaas (Norma), sister-in-law Hetty (John) and their families. Dad was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, son Rudy, son-in-law Jim, great-granddaughter Jewel, three brothers-in-law Rudy, Thys, and Klaas, and two sisters-in-law Hinke, and Marcia. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the DeSalaberry Hospital for the care and compassion that they showed, not only to Dad, but to his family as well. Trudy, Sharon, Jennifer and Gail, you will not soon be forgotten. Funeral service for Dad will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day St., Winnipeg, MB, on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 12:00 noon, with viewing one hour prior to service. Private family interment will follow the reception. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Our thoughts are with the families at this difficult time. I had the pleasure of meeting "Ike" when we lived in St. Malo. He was always smiling and always had a story of a family members accomplishments. He loved to swap driving stories and was so proud of his safety awards and his special drivers license. - Posted by: Danny and Maureen Smith (friend of family) on: Jul 10, 2015

  • When I saw the picture of your husband and dad, it took me back to the time we made a trip together as a team. I was a rooky and Ike was the seasond driver. I have only good memories of him. At the time Amway was an important side venture for him. Saying good bye to a loved one is sad, but I trust you as a family will find comfort in the God of all comfort who gives us hope for beyond the grave to life with Him.
