MICHAEL STEVEN LINK May 15, 1995 - July 10, 2015 Michael passed away at his favourite place in the world, Lac du Bonnet. He leaves to mourn his passing, his parents Kim and Greg, big sister Rachel and big brother Mitchell; Grandma Lil Sokal, Nanny Darlene Link, Uncle Grant, Aunty Donna and cousin Grace Sokal; and Uncle Grant, Aunty Corinna, and cousins Braden and Jeremy Link. He was predeceased by his Grandpa Paul Sokal and Papa Ed Link, two men who played a huge role in shaping our son's character, skill set, and playful nature. Our family is very grateful to his friends who also made up such a big part of his family - his other big brother' Matty, girlfriend Brittany, Johnny, Matt, Jordan, Brandon, Wyatt, Ty, Tyler, Mason, and his little brothers' Trevor and Blake. For a young man of 20, Michael lived a very full and fun life. He grew up in East St. Paul playing organized sports like hockey, soccer, baseball and football, but his best days were simply spent playing with his friends. He spent his summers and every possible weekend playing with his sister and brother at his grandparents' cabins in Lac du Bonnet and St. Laurent. His summer days were spent swimming off the dock, waterskiing, dirt biking and four wheeling. His winter days were spent snowmobiling, downhill skiing and playing hockey, either on our backyard rink or the rink made on the river at the cabin. He attended Dr. Hamilton School, Robert Andrews Junior High and Kildonan East Collegiate, where he thrived in the social aspects of school. He saved his academic achievements for evenings and weekends as the list of his various certifications - everything from scuba diving to firearms acquisition - exceeds 20 accreditations. His first summer job was a Lifeguard and swim instructor in Lac du Bonnet. He then became a Lifeguard/Instructor with the City of Winnipeg where he worked part time until completing High School. He was a Level Two Refrigeration apprentice scheduled to return to Red River College for his next level in the Fall. Thor Plumbing and Heating gave him his start in his career, and we cannot say enough about the investment his current employer - Cimco Refrigeration - has made in our son. He travelled the world with his family. Ski trips to western Canada and the US Rockies, and camping adventures from the east coast to the west coast were the norm. He loved our, 2007, four month expedition to Hawaii, Australia and the southern United States. Christmas vacations were also celebrated in New York and Mexico. He was a hard worker and loved doing anything with his hands. He was our man around the house who would fix anything that needed fixing. He was a loving little dude who was always there to help his mom, dad, sister, brother and his friends when they needed him. He had a soft spot for little kids and always included them in everything he did. His weekends were spent playing with his friends. He owned a dirt bike, snowmobile, Seadoo, Jeep and truck and his free time was spent with the boys, and their toys. He truly lived life to the fullest and had fun each and every day. We would like to thank our friends and relatives for their incredible and loving support, the Lac du Bonnet R.C.M.P. and John and Theresa Fleming for their efforts and compassion they showed to our son and brother. There will be a Celebration of Michael's life on Friday, July 17, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba. If you wish, donations in Michael's honour can be made to: A Vocational Career Start fund for students is being established at Kildonan East Collegiate in Michael's name - cheques payable to RETSD, 589 Roch Street, Winnipeg, MB R2K 2P7; or Making Waves Winnipeg - an organization that offers one-on-one swimming lessons for children with special needs, 620 Hilton Street, Winnipeg, MB R3R 0Y9. • Dear Greg, Kim, and family, There really are no words for this situation. I only hope that the loving energy and kind thoughts of your family and friends provide some comfort. In reading about Mike’s life, it’s quite apparent that he enriched the world for having been in it. It’s astonishing to note the zest with which he embraced each and every day of his twenty years. Most of us spend far longer achieving far less success in making the most of our time here. While I am terribly sorry for the brevity, I’m so happy that in Mike, we see an example of a life well-lived!
