Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERNEST YAKIMOW It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Ernie Yakimow, after a courageous fight, aged 78 years, at St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday, July 16, 2015. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Olive, of 58 years, brother Gordon, sisters Annette (Don) Gordon, Rosemarie (Barry) Klym, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Nellie Yakimow, and Uncle Andrew Yakimow. Ernie was born in the R.M. of Brokenhead on May 12, 1937. He attended school at Bonar-Law and helped on the farm until he moved to Winnipeg to start employment at Northern Paint, where he worked for 41 years. He was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Michael's Parish in Transcona. Ernie spent countless hours involved with the Brotherhood, Knights of Columbus, parish perogy preparations, weekly bingos and other various parish functions. He could always be seen at the front of the church assisting the priests and serving as the "Starshy Braht" during church liturgies. Ernie was always fond of spending time with family and friends over a good meal and "a treat". He was especially proud of the times he and Gordon spent maintaining and improving the grounds at the Brokenhead Cemetery. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all those who spent time with him. A funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Parish, 100 Yale Ave. East, Winnipeg, MB with Rev. Fr. Djura G. Maljik Celebrant. A private interment will follow at Brokenhead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brokenhead Cemetery towards perpetual care or a charity of your choice. Dear Auntie Ollie; Uncle Ernie always had wonderful stories to tell me. When I worked Tuesday evenings at Holy Family Home we would spend a lot of time talking and reminiscing . I am glad I had those wonderful moments . Also the last few times when we visited him in the hospital he never failed to make me laugh. I will miss him and pray for the repose of his soul.
