EDIE CYMBALIST 1942 - 2015 It is with sadness that we announce the death of Edith Valerie Dawn Cymbalist (nee Walker), who passed away peacefully on July 14, 2015 at Riverview Health Centre. Edie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters Terry Lynn (Kevin) Hyra and Tracey (Shayne) McGowan, grandchildren Bryanna and Ashley Hyra, Tyson and Trey McGowan, and sister Carol (Emil) Bulas. She was predeceased by George, her husband of 51 years, and her parents Natalie and Philip. Edie was born November 16, 1942 and grew up on the family farm near Plumas, Manitoba. She attended Concordia College in Edmonton and started her administrative career at Great West Life in Winnipeg. She took some time off to raise her daughters and returned to work at Bio Static Systems where she retired after almost 25 years of service. Edie loved spending time with her family, gardening and cooking. Mom and Dad enjoyed preparing the birthday BBQ celebrations and big holiday dinners, complete with at least two desserts, for the family to gather and have a few laughs. Mom and Dad loved to travel, from road trips with their girls to visit relatives in BC, Florida and across the northern U.S. to Mexico, Hawaii and Las Vegas. Mom prepared many family photo albums to capture these fond memories over the years. In keeping with Edie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in memory of Edie Cymbalist to the St. Amant Foundation on-line or by mail (440 River Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3Z9). Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Came across Edie's obituary while randomly surfing. Am surprised and saddened; it seems too soon. Edie and I were friends through our years at Concordia; room mates for a time. She spent part of one summer vacation with my family in the Peace River area of Alberta. We were born two days apart, and for a time were as close as sisters. I think I knew of her intention to marry George even before he did (sharing secrets and confidences after a Christmas vacation)... We corresponded for a number of years, and my daughter Geri and I stopped for a few days with George and Edie in Winnipeg in June of 1969 while we were having a mini break from my studies at the UofA. A very special time of renewing care and affection, and just simply catching up. Over the years since the connection was lost, but not the deep affection and the intense memories of teen years. Edith was special, I think of her often, and am thankful to have had such a deep and abiding friendship particularly in those years when it is of such importance. To those she has left behind I wish joy and comfort in the remembering... - Posted by: Audrey Heuer-LeBeau -Wilson (highschool friend) on: Feb 12, 2016

  • I am at a Concordia College Reunion in Edmonton, AB. I added Edie's name to the list of deceased alumni, and we will light a candle in her memory tomorrow, Aug 9 at our Chapel Service. Many alumni who knew her expressed their condolences. Edie inspired me to attend Concordia College. We grew up in the same area, rural Plumas, MB. Edie, George, her parents, and sister Carol were always very friendly, caring, and welcoming. My wife, Ann and I extend our sympathies to Edie's Family as well as celebrate her love and care for those she knew. • It is 3 weeks since Edie left you. They say time heals. I know it does but there will be empty spots at your table with your dad (George) and mom (Edie) gone. No one can take your memories away and I do hope they are warm lasting ones of your parents and grandparents. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Donna Cymbalist (George's cousin) on: Aug 05, 2015

  • Terry Lynn , Tracy and family .... You are in our thoughts at this time of sorrow. It's hard to know just what to say at this sad time because your loss is so great, and because your mother will be missed in so many ways. As you mourn the loss of your Mother may you find comfort in sweet family memories and in the caring words and thoughts of friends .... • Terry, Tracey and family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. Your mom and I had many great conversations when we worked together. I especially loved her generosity and her fantastic personality and sense of humour. Unfortunately we had not stayed in touch like we thought we would, but we were both very busy with our families and I know how much your moms family meant to her. Any time I ran into her she would always be speaking so proud of all you. Even though we were not as close as we once were I will miss her very much. My sincere condolences. - Posted by: Tracy Bertschinger (Family friend) on: Jul 22, 2015

  • Tracey and Terry So sorry to hear of your loss. Edie was a wonderful woman and great mother to you. Although she didn't always seem too thrilled to see me already at 98 Portland when she came home from work back in the 80's ! :) On behalf of Barbara, Rylee and Jaiden, please accept our deepest sympathies. We will say a prayer for your mother Godspeed Derek - Posted by: Derek Rolstone (Old friend ) on: Jul 22, 2015

  • Extending deepest sympathy to the Cymbalist family on learning that Edie passed away. Edie was a long time volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society's annual door to door campaign. For 28 years Edie canvassed in her neighbourhood during the month of April. Later Terry Lynn joined her mother to raise funds in support of the community canvass. Take care and know that our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Lynda and friends at the Canadian Cancer Society - Posted by: Lynda Ruban (staff at the Canadian Cancer Society) on: Jul 20, 2015
