She was predeceased by her loving husband Mel of 59 years, as well as her parents and siblings. She will be sadly missed by her son Greg (Miranda), daughter Sandy (Ted), grandchildren Jen (Mike), Regan (Chris), Tamara (Ryan); great-grandchildren Kennedy, Marco and Francesco. Lorene was born in Alliance Alberta in 1924. At the age of 19 Lorene enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division. In September 1954 she met her husband Mel; they married in February of 1955 in Calgary. In their many years together they lived and seen a lot of the world together by traveling during their service work, to traveling summer vacations with their children. In 1963 they settled in Winnipeg with their two children. Lorene worked for the Winnipeg School Division as a secretary, then later for Misericordia Hospital as an Administrative Assistant in the Social Work Department. Lorene retired in 1986, shortly thereafter moved to Kelowna with her husband and enjoyed many years of retirement together. Due to her failing health Lorene returned to Winnipeg in May 2015 to be with her family. We would like to express our deep gratitude to Sam and Bev Lashuk, Eva and Jim Hayashi and neighbour Jean for all their love support and kindness to mom. Our heartfelt sympathy to you Sandie, Greg and Families on the passing of your beloved mother, Laurene. She and your dad were good friends and kind & gentle people. We had good times together over the years and we will treasure those precious memories. I have missed our weekly chats with your mom since she left. I will also miss her sense of humour and all her emails. - Posted by: Rudy & Irene Herman (Friends) on: Jul 29, 2015
