My dear uncle Ronnie has always been such a warm, loving and calming influence in my life. He always went out of his way to let us know he loved and missed us. I appreciate all the love he gave us and his wisdom and fun, practical way of approaching life. When they were young he and Joan would come to Calgary and stay with us. Joy, affection and laughter were abundant in the house whenever they came. When my father passed away Uncle Ronnie and Aunty Joan came right away. He was the rock there for all of us and Joan a great partner by his side. His love, sympathy and sense of humour helped us through that emotional time. Uncle Ronnie had a strong sense of loyalty to family. He was there always for my grandfather to make sure he was OK. Whenever we came to Winnipeg Ronnie & Joan always went out of their way to entertain us with their loving ways, enjoying us and themselves and we always felt welcomed and at home. Aunty Joan sent us cards every Christmas - always reminding us we were missed and in their thoughts with unconditional love. These wonderful memories of the love and closeness of our family are what have made me feel so grounded and solid in life. I know Uncle Ronnnie is with Dad now - and they were always such great pals, what a great reunion. I will miss him. I love him very much. Ron and Joan were our best friends on Fontaine Crescent. We spent many hours together as neighbours helping each other as our families grew. Ron was most helpful to me fixing things and getting out of jams with my first car. An avid fisherman, we spent many happy times fishing in the Ottermere/Malachi area, boating and BBQing after a successful catch. I enjoyed celebrating special occasions with Ron and Joan and especially the last few times we had lunch together. Needless to say, his expertise at watch repair, never failed to notice when mine needed attention. May God bless the Collins family and his peace surround them at this time. - Posted by: John Hatcher (friend) on: Aug 24, 2015

Ron has been a special part of our lives. From the time when I lived next door growing up in Windsor Park to today. He was truly like a "second" parent and was a part of our family holiday celebrations through the years. When Gary first met Ron and Joan, he once said that he thought Ron's name was Shut-Up Ron and that Joan's was Aw shit Joan. Ron spent his career at Eaton's in the watch repair department and was a well respected employee. Ron even met Joan at Eaton's when they played baseball. They were a true Eaton family. When Ron retired, he continued to repair watches at home, golfed, travelled to visit friends and family and spent many hours at the camp in Libau. Ron loved sports, classic movies, jigsaw puzzles and claimed to be the best shortbread cookie baker helping Joan mix the dough. One year, Ron sold watches out of the back seat of his car - not unlike the guy in the movies that comes up to you and opens up his trench coat to ask you if you want to buy a watch. Our girlfriend, Hazel, became one of his biggest sales reps who sold a record number of watches for Ron that Christmas. We shall miss Ron - he was never short of words, could always tell a story and was ever so proud of his family. - Posted by: Karen and Gary Goossen (friends) on: Aug 03, 2015

My condolences to the Collins Family. Ron was a true gentleman. Met Ron on our daily bus trips to work and became good friends. We had a lot in common like hunting and golfing. He will be missed by all who golfed with him at Transcona Golf Club. - Posted by: Larry Pitre (friend) on: Aug 02, 2015
