JOYCE BROWNSCOMBE February 1, 1954 August 6, 2015. Suddenly on Thursday, August 6th, 2015, Joyce passed away following a long and difficult battle with depression. She is survived by her husband Richard, children, Rick (Jeanine Pitre), Shannon (Frank Derosa), and Sasha (Maggie), granddaughters Sydney Adam, Renee Therrien, and grandsons Tiger Adam, Vincenzo, Michele and Francesco Derosa, great-grandson Jude, brother John Oades (Darcie), sister Lorraine Oades, mother Muriel Moreau and father Ross Oades. She was predeceased by her younger brother Kent in 1985. His passing marked a difficult period for her but she kept his memory alive through her relationship with Kent's daughter Angela (Michael Rodenburgh). Joyce was raised in Niakwa Park and Southdale in Winnipeg and as a young woman was a natural mother. She loved being a mother and a grandmother and relied upon her strong work ethic to carry her. She was gifted and had more common sense than most. Joyce worked in property management in her early years and then went on to complete her education as an esthetician in her thirties, then back to university to take nursing until Sasha was born and then went back to school to train as a gemologist. While raising Sasha she helped Shannon raise Sydney. She and Sydney were very close. While she loved all children and puppy dogs, Joyce appreciated that they all have good manners and showed respect. She always conducted herself with dignity, respect and appreciation. She was the essence of beauty and kindness to all of us and we were humbled by her quiet strength and grace. Joyce was a master decorator, colour and fabric picker, jewelry aficionado and extreme fashionista. Our mother worked hard during her lifetime to overcome the many difficulties that life throws at us. We take comfort in knowing that she is at peace now and can have the rest that she so desperately needed. To her closest friends Devica and Murray, Linda, Mayila, Teresa and Vanay at 119 Corbo in Toronto, Andy and Shyra at Girl Candy in Winnipeg, Mia at Cebado, all of her fellow fashionistas in Winnipeg and Toronto and to Jim and the staff at 529 who always took such good care of her, please take comfort in knowing that she loved all of you and enjoyed and appreciated your friendship. It helped her cope with life and relieved her mind. To Frank Derosa who found and worked hard to save Joyce, our entire family extends our love and appreciation for everything you did for her. Joyce believed in giving back and supported a number of valuable causes within the city of Winnipeg for many years. She loved shopping and travel when she was healthier and enjoyed celebrating anniversaries, birthdays or going out for a bite so that she could get dressed up. We ask each of you to keep those you love close and to show your love for them as often as you can. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to any of our local mental health groups or hospitals. She was so bright and so beautiful. We will miss her company and elegance. We love you mom and will never forget you. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • Dear Joyce, Although life gets in the way and you and I and Richard lost touch over the decades I will NEVER forget how much fun we had on Hosmer! It seems like it was 100 years ago (not a mere 30). I always saw you as a gorgeous classy woman (just a couple of years older) who, unlike me, knew how to dress sharp and wear make-up. Just so you know I am still struggling to emulate you in both respects. I so enjoyed our walks together and I was happily one of your first "guinea pigs" when you went to esthetician school. I remember dinners with the two of you and especially (OK - shouldn't like say this but I know you will laugh....) the night at our pool where we stayed up until sunrise and then decided that it would be a great idea to EGG Stu Bright's house in his absence. Stay beautiful Joyce, and Richard, be strong. Maureen Jay (Goldman) - Posted by: Maureen Jay (Goldman) (Neighbour on Hosmer Blvd in the '80s) on: Aug 19, 2015
