BENJAMIN (BEN) KUBRAKOVICH September 21, 1940 - August 9, 2015 It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our dear Tato (Ben) on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at his home in Gimli, MB. He will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 49 years, Jeannette (nee Dufault); his 15 children and their families; Cathy (Rob), Caroline (Terry, Cassidy), Michael (Sharon, Ronin, Kolya), Nadia (Tyson, Zoe, Jacob), Boh (Amanda, Alicia, Haley, Mya), Sonya, Luba (André, Roman, Simeon, Annika), Tanya (Tony, Martino), Lydia (Ryan, Victor), Daria (Jack, Connor), Julia (Mark, Kalyna, Little Ben), Maria, Peter (Aeron), Paul, Lesia (Stef); and his siblings, Peter (Michelle), Lillian, Jane; nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends. Ben was born in Teulon, MB and grew up on the family farm in Komarno, MB. He was the eldest of four children, born to Peter and Pearl (nee Cymbaluk). When he wasn't in school or working on the farm he excelled at playing hockey and baseball. After finishing Teachers College he completed his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and later his Master of Education. His lifelong teaching career began in St. Laurent, where he met the love of his life Jeannette. In 1968 they moved to Gimli where he taught Ukrainian and Chemistry at Gimli High School until retiring in 1996. Ben was committed to the preservation of Ukrainian education, language and culture. He had a strong faith and was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church. Ben found great joy spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren grow; he was a very proud Tato and Dido! He spent his retirement cutting lawns, visiting with coffee buddies, avidly reading, discovering his love of travel (Canada, Italy, Hawaii and Texas) and rekindling his love for Ukrainian cross-stitching. Ben will be remembered for imparting his deep wisdom, passion for learning, strong work ethic and sense of humour to all. We love you Tato! Funeral prayers will be celebrated on August 13, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Liturgy on Friday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m., both at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gimli, MB. Celebrants will be Rev. Fr. Harry Chuckry and Fr. André Lalach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church Memorial Fund, Gimli, MB or Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Education Centre, Winnipeg, MB. Vichnaya Pamyat / Eternal Memory Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • I wish to express my sincerest condolences to all of Ben's family. I attended Manitoba Teachers College with Ben in 1960-61 and while we were not in the same class, I did get to know Ben as a fellow resident of the men's residences at MTC. Ben was a quiet, reserved, gentle person who had the respect of not only his colleagues but his instructors as well. I had the privilege some years ago of running into either his daughter or his granddaughter who worked at the front desk of The Place Louis Riel. I would often inquire about Ben and asked her to extend my good wishes to him. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant" - Posted by: Edward R. • I am very sad to learn of Ben's passing. My sympathies go out to all of members of his very large family. Ben was my Chemistry teacher from 1968 thru 1970. He was a very modest, kind and soft-spoken man, and one of my favourite teachers. I fondly remember the day that he arrived to school dressed in his graduation cap and gown to celebrate his achieving his latest university degree. He was very proud of his accomplishment and we, his students, couldn't help being proud of him. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to chat with him many times over the past few years, during my visits to Gimli. He took excellent care of my mother's lawn and kept a watchful eye over her interests. I will miss him. - Posted by: Ted Marttin (Friend and student) on: Aug 14, 2015
