NICHOLAS KRAWEC
Born: Jan 04, 1946
Date of Passing: Aug 16, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICHOLAS (NICK) KRAWEC Nicholas (Nick) Stanley Krawec passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from a major heart attack after a long struggle with heart disease. Nick was born on January 4, 1946 in Weiden, MB to Michael and Michaelina Krawec, and was the youngest of the 18 children. In 1964, after a hard childhood on the farm, he attended St. Vladimir's College in Roblin, MB and later became employed with Manitoba Telephone System in 1965. With three friends they formed a Ukrainian polka band where he played drums. He married Helen Chaychuck of Pulp River, MB on May 4, 1968 and had one child, Dennis in 1970. Nick always served the communities where he lived; as a volunteer firefighter, umpiring and coaching baseball, was a member of Winnipegosis town council, Elks Lodge, Ukrainian Brotherhood, Knights of Columbus and church councils. If you had a bingo, he'd work it! He was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and would often say "to be Ukrainian you have to do Ukrainian things", usually with a drink in hand, while listening to Ukrainian polka music. He loved to play cars on the floor or have a tea party with his grandchildren. He is survived by his son Dennis (Maria); grandchildren, Tristan and Annyka; brothers, Alec, Marvin, Sam, Peter and Martin; sisters, Olga and Jean; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by father Michael, mother Michaelina, brothers, Harry and Mike; and sisters, Mary, Vicki, and Anne. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 21 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22, also at the Church with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

Ah yes the farm and how to enjoy the natural way of life on the farm is what uncle Nick help me to enjoy as a youngster. But most of all was what Nick would do for family was most important. But perhaps my most wonderful moment was after not seeing him for 17 years was his warm Ukrainian "bear hug" I received from him on August 15,2015 as his hello.love you Nick you'll always remain in our hearts. - Posted by: Darcy Pam Brown (nephew) on: Aug 27, 2015

Uncle Nick was more like brother Nick to us as there wasn't much age difference. I have it on good authority that we first met when I was 3 and he 9. He was our go to guy with anything related to "farm" as we were raised in the city. Not everything he taught was as it should be as he also had quite a sense of humour. The odd milk fight occurred in the barn and he somehow forgot to tell us how important it was to put the tire around the cow's butt. He also forgot to tell us that barn cats are more than cute and the bull really was not our friend! His life's journey began in Weiden and he has now reached his final destination. He did not undertake that journey with the intention of arriving at his destination safely with his body in pristine condition but rather lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the ride!! He had a great week prior and enjoyed seeing everyone at the 50th anniversary party the night before. We said good night and now we say good-bye. - Posted by: Jim and Karen Krawec (Nephew) on: Aug 21, 2015
