ANIELIA (NELLIE) DANWICH
Born: Aug 04, 1916
Date of Passing: Aug 18, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANIELIA (NELLIE) DANWICH (nee DZIADEK) August 4, 1916 - August 18, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nellie is survived by her children Ronald, Pat (Earl), Diana (Larry), Gary (Nancy), Linda, Barry, Ken (Carol), Sharon (Joe), Dennis (Laurie), Wendy and Bonnie; stepsister Olga; 34 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Leon in 1964; son Terrance; grandson Darren; two children at birth, Roy and Nancy; parents Anastasia and Andrew; stepfather Karl Kryzanowski; brothers Martin, Tony, Nick, and Wally, and sister Frances. Mom was raised on a small farm in Meleb, MB and worked in her parent's grocery store and post office at a very young age. She married Dad in 1935 when she was 19 years old and they lived and raised their family in Traverse Bay by the lake. She worked very hard providing for us children by milking cows, gardening, sewing, and preserving. Mom and Dad were always involved in fundraising for community and school activities. In the late 1950s they purchased property at Traverse Bay corner which became our new home. This was the beginning of Nellie's Snack Bar, with a gas bar and later post office. This popular restaurant became known for her famous Nellie Burgers (which people still rave about today). In her late 50s she sold the business and built a new home north of the corner. Her strength and determination allowed her to live independently until the age of 98. This strong will was demonstrated by her ability to chase bears away with her kitchen broom. She was involved in numerous community projects which included fundraising for a new senior facility. Mom took on many positions such as the president for two terms. She was also very involved in the H.E.L.P. Centre and had been on the board since its inception. Other interests included the writing club, painting, sketching, quilting, crafts, weekly bingo nights, monthly dinner dances, and the Wednesday Day Program. She also enjoyed casino nights with her family and friends. Mom loved her family and created a family legacy for generations to come. Mom always welcomed everyone as family into her home. She had a positive outlook on life and was a pleasure to be around. We are so proud of her and hope we can emulate her attributes and contributions to society. Heartfelt thank you to the staff at Red River Place and Selkirk General Hospital. God bless you Mom. Rest in Peace. Interment will take place prior to the service on Monday, August 24, 2015 in the St. Marguerite Churchyard Cemetery, Pitt Road, Traverse Bay, at 11:30 a.m. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 in the Senior Scene, Victoria Beach, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Senior Scene, 3 Ateah Road, Victoria Beach, MB R0E 2C0. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
