JOY SUZANNE MCDIARMID With a heavy heart Joey Adamson announces the death of her dearest friend. Being a wordsmith all her life Joy has written the following. "Quietly and filled with love I went into the morning light of September 11th. I was blessed by my partner Josephine, with whom I lived a rich life for nearly 20 years, 14 of them in the forest of Victoria Beach. I had a varied career; marketing executive, audio producer of support tapes for cancer patients "Voices in the Night" and 10 years of highly satisfying work at the University of Winnipeg. While most of my life was working with words, I often engaged in my two favorite sports, tennis and golf. I was also an avid photographer. The richness of my life at Victoria Beach was due to my summers spent with my grandmother Lou Little and my lifelong friend Kitson Vincent and his family. I am forever grateful. I also give thanks to Joey's family Christopher and Andrew Ainley and her daughters Susan Tuttle for the affection and support over the years. Throughout the years "The fearless five" have been my steadfast friends. Good-bye to you all with my love." Joy was predeceased by her parents Jack and Glad McDiarmid. She will be missed by her cousin Gordon McDiarmid and clan, William Kops, Jane and Roger Gateson and the Tihani Book Club. Appreciation of care and support over the years to Drs. Francis Edye and Ian Alexander, thanks to the staff at Selkirk General Hospital for their superlative nursing care. Donations to charities of Joy's choice are: "The Joyful Fund", Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 - 1 Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0X5; East Beaches Senior Scene, Victoria Beach, MB, R0E 2C0; East Beaches Animal Centre, Victoria Beach, R0E 2C0. A service of celebration will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Michael's Church, Victoria Beach, followed by cheer at the Seniors Scene on Ateah Road. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Joy and I were colleagues in higher education, she at the University of Winnipeg and I at the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. Our paths crossed through our membership in related university-based national organizations, particularly public affairs, and through the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Joy was a consummate professional and such great fun! While the crossing of our paths waxed and waned, it was always just like yesterday! I visited her in Winnipeg and at her wonderful retreat at Victoria Beach. We lunched once at the Château Laurier. Over the past year or more, we spoke on Sunday mornings about once a month or so. Those long, rambling conversations covered a lot of ground and were much looked forward to! I miss them, and her. Rosemary - Posted by: Rosemary Cavan (Friend, Colleague) on: Oct 13, 2015

  • I have been an admirer of Joy, ever since I first saw her in her Balmoral Hall yearbook in the 1950's. Our friendship blossomed with mutual visits between Atlanta and VB in the 1990's initiated by Joy's awareness of the need to calm the fear around a diagnosis of cancer. Thus was born her great cassette tape project, 'Voices in the Night'. She was my tutor and coach as she enrolled me also in the project raising my own awareness of the need to relieve fear while treating my own cancer patients. Precious were my winter overnight visits with Joy and Joey. We had great conversations and cross country skiing. The later summer visits were equally wonderful and all too short. Janet and I will miss Joy Joy very, very much ! - Posted by: Matthew Burrell (good friend) on: Sep 20, 2015
