Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE ANNE BAEHNK (nee HYKAWY) Her will stayed strong even once her body could not. Mom lost her three year battle with cancer on September 6, 2015. Rose was born in Gimli on April 19, 1948 to Anne Bobrowich and Andrew Hykawy. After growing up in West St. Paul, she married Hans Harald Baehnk in 1972 and moved to St. Andrews, where they raised their family. Rose has been a devoted wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend, bringing joy to those she met and always caring for others before thinking of herself. Rose was a hairdresser, saleswoman, housewife and volunteer, as well as a soul mate, confidant, driver, teacher, coach and tough outspoken supporter that was always in your corner. She is survived by her sons, Darryl and Dennis (Kimberly); grandson Austin; and brothers, Ken and Tim Hykawy, and families. A special thanks to the staff of CancerCare and Selkirk Hospital for their help on mom's last journey. Memorial service to take place at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, on Thursday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome

Rose and I met while teaching hairdressing at Scientific. We quickly became very close friends. I was fortunate enough to be part of Rose & Harold's wedding party and we stayed friends throughout the years, enjoying many a great telephone conversation. I will miss my dear friend very much and my one regret is that we just never were able to quite make it to our planned coffee date.
