JEAN KOROLYK (nee PAWLUK) Peacefully, on September 14, 2015, at Deer Lodge Centre, Jean passed away at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband Walter; son Gerald; parents John and Ann Pawluk; sisters Anne, Mary, Olga and Polly; and brothers, Peter, Mike, Nick, Bill, Ed and John. She is survived by her children, Charlotte (Richard), Jack, and Ken (Laura); daughter-in-law Marion; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie (Victor), and Sophie (Clarence); her brother Ernie (Phyllis); sisters-in-law Rose and Bonnie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was born in 1924 and grew up in the Melnice area. Being one of 14 children, there was always work to be done on the family farm. After her marriage to Walter in 1945 she gained much more experience on the farm including gardening, canning, milking cows, and raising chickens. Mom would cook the ultimate fried chicken dinner and most Sundays would find company at the door near dinner time. However, most important to her was raising four children and always helping out with the grandchildren. Baba spent a lot of time with the grandkids and seemed to get a big kick out of buying goofy gifts for their birthdays. She loved people and was always ready to go visiting, hardly ever missing a shower or a funeral. She was an amazing, happy, energetic, vibrant lady who spoke her mind and enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling especially with Marnie. The two were great travel companions. Mom in a very courageous move, never having a job, got her first paying job when she was 60. She worked for the Parks Branch in Winnipeg Beach until the age of 67 when her tragic accident caused her to spend the next 23 and one half years of her life at Deer Lodge Centre. Our family wishes to extend sincere thanks for the excellent medical care provided to Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this most caring facility. A service will be held at the Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk on Monday, September 21, at 9:30 a.m. with Father Peter Chorney officiating. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Mom, you will always be loved for the beautiful person you were! VICHNAYA PAM'YAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
