NELSON February 8, 1942 - September 29, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather Oliver J. Nelson on September 29, 2015 at St. Boniface Hospital. He was born at Roseau River First Nation on February 8, 1942. Among his many accomplishments: he was a Residential School Survivor; studied at the University of Manitoba; became Regional Director of Indian Affairs for various regions; Chief of Roseau River First Nation; founding member of the Manitoba Indian Brotherhood and DOTC; member of the Water Stewardship; assisted with the TLE and 1903 settlements for Roseau River First Nation; and owned the Four Winds Motel for a number of years. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, brother Richard; ex-partners Joyce and Sharon; children, John, Trina (Russ), Cheryl (Joseph); grandchildren Desiree, Kyle (Sonja), Damian, Cody, Koreen, Cailin, Hailey, Tiara, Callie, Savannah, Stryder, Sophia, Chance, Cataleya; great-grandchildren Delarice, Anika; and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Lena Pierre and George Chief; and his siblings Louie, Tony, Babe, Stanley, Myrtle, Donald and Clifford. Traditional services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the Makoons Centre at Roseau River First Nation. Arrangements Entrusted to: Morris Funeral Home 204-746-2451
