ORAL TISDALE MCGREGOR (nee FRASER) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Oral McGregor on October 3, 2015 at West Park Manor, Winnipeg, with her family at her bedside. Oral was born June 6, 1924 in Saskatoon, the youngest child and only daughter of Reginald and Elizabeth Fraser. She grew up in Saskatoon, completing Grade 12 at Bedford Road Collegiate, and worked until her marriage at a dress shop and at The Western Producer newspaper. She met her future husband, Peter McGregor, at a dance for men from the Air Force training station in Saskatoon on April Fool's Day, 1940, and married him when the Second World War ended, on October 27, 1945. They were looking forward to celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary later this month. Oral and Peter moved to Winnipeg, where they spent most of their married life (except for ten years in Toronto). Oral became a homemaker and raised her three daughters. She loved curling, playing bridge at the Fort Garry Community Club, and reading. She was a very social person and friends were important to her. She was well-known for her graciousness and kindness. Oral is survived by her husband Peter McGregor; daughters Sharron Bettess (Brian), Karen McGregor, and Heather Balcaen (Blair); as well as four grandchildren Paul Bettess (Laura), Sara Bettess, Christine Balcaen, and Michael Balcaen; three great-grandchildren Jessica Kydd (Jean Pierre Berard), Grace Bettess, and Jakob Bettess; and one great-great-grandchild Andre Berard. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brothers Donald and Walter Fraser and their spouses, her granddaughter Julie Bettess and her son-in-law Michel LeBoulaire. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Rosewood, St. Boniface Hospital and West Park Manor for their care of Oral in her final months. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Alzheimer Society in Oral's memory. • Thinking of the McGregor family. I was fortunate enough to meet Oral McGregor when I was visiting my friend Karen McGregor at their family home in Winnipeg. I thought how nice, sweet and totally classy Mrs. McGregor was...she was everything wonderful a mother should be.
