He moved to Winnipeg in the 1960s and worked for Federal Pioneer/Pauwels Canada Inc. as a welder and was active in the Steel Workers Union Local 4297. He also volunteered at the Riverview Community Club as Sports Chairman and President. Don was a hardworking unassuming man who liked a simple life and took great delight in watching his children/grandchildren grow up. He loved the outdoor life (summer) and spent most of the summers camping across Canada and the U.S. In later years he moved the trailer to a permanent spot in Pinawa where he spent 12 wonderful years. His unique sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. Don really enjoyed his retirement. He took up golf and spent many happy hours on the golf courses. At Don's request cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, Ontario. If friends so desire donations may be made in Don's memory to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, 204-774-5501 or a charity of your choice.
