GERALD VICTOR TRUEMAN Suddenly, on November 1, 2015, Gerald Victor Trueman died at home with his family close by. Jerry was born January 22, 1928 in Winnipeg, the much loved son of T.V. (Thomas Victor) and Grace Trueman. Jerry was predeceased by sons Gregory and Brent in infancy, his son-in-law David Young, his sister Marguerite Cressock, her husband Frank, and sister-in-law Miriam Trueman. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, June (nee Hart), daughters Tannis Young, Barbara (Bill) Dryden, Janine (Jeff) Sherman, son Geoffrey (Rebecca Gwyn) Trueman, his grandchildren, his brother Jack Trueman, sister-in-law Doreen (Mack) Murray, brother-in-law Graham (Elicia) Hart, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry spent much of his youth at local hockey rinks and baseball diamonds, where he made many friends. Jerry completed high school at Glenlawn Collegiate. He was well liked and respected and was chosen to deliver the valedictory address. Jerry entered the accountancy field in 1946 with W. D. Love & Company and received his chartered accountancy designation in 1951. Jerry and June were married at Regents Park United Church in 1952. The years that followed were filled with family and friends. Jerry and June welcomed their children who became the focus of their life together. It was a busy household with the swirl of school, sports, music, special family vacations and weekends at Sandy Hook. For 63 years Jerry was a loving husband to June. He was as devoted to his family as he was respected in his professional life. He was unfailingly kind and generous, a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. When Jerry retired after more than 45 years in his profession, he was able to turn his full attention to the growing number of grandchildren with whom he so looked forward to sharing his time. Erica, Graeme, Janet, Fraser, Hayley, Trevor, Declan and Naomi all shone in his eyes. They treasured the time they spent with their granddad enjoying some of his favourite activities; reading stories, skating, tobogganing at St. Vital Park, and trips to Assiniboine Zoo. Recent years saw Jerry and June spend their time together happily at home or the cottage. Jerry was grateful for the life he led and made sure he found the time to tell this to his family. He taught all of us many important life lessons, quietly leading by example. We are sad to say goodbye, but are fortunate to have had him at the heart of our family for so many years. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. If friends wish, donations may be made in memory of Jerry to a charity of one's choice.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We were so very sorry to hear this news. But what a wonderful life, and legacy, to share. Our sincere condolences to Geoff and the Trueman family. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Suzanne Lyon () on: Nov 07, 2015

  • We partied together way back in the late 40's and early 50's. I would like to express my deepest sympathy for your sorrow. Hi Jackie. - Posted by: Bob Stimpson (Old friend) on: Nov 04, 2015

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry a couple of times. What struck me immediately was how gentle and sweet he was, with such a beautiful smile. Everyone knows that Janine adores her family, and would like to be with her family as often as she can. That speaks volumes to me. Before planning a social event here in Ottawa, I would often check to make sure it didn't conflict with celebrating Jerry's birthday, because I knew that was a special time, and not to be interfered with. Thinking of you all during this painful time. With lots of love, Janet - Posted by: Janet Clarke (family friend) on: Nov 04, 2015

  • Although I did not have the pleasure of meeting Jerry, I have heard so many loving words and storeys of his time with us. My heart truly goes out to the family, he will surely be missed and fondly remembered by many. - Posted by: Shannon (family friend and coworker) on: Nov 04, 2015
