ROBERT HAROLD MANSFIELD It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Harold Mansfield of Winnipeg, Manitoba, announces his passing on Friday, October 30, 2015. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Leone, his children, Jim and Laurel; his sister, Jean, and his brothers, Gerald, Ernie, and Don, and their families. Bob was born on October 26, 1931, in Dauphin, Manitoba, to Marjorie (nee Lintick) and Harold Mansfield. He graduated from Dauphin Collegiate and married his high-school sweetheart, Leone Gray, on August 18, 1956. Bob joined The Great-West Life Assurance Company in 1960 where he enjoyed a 31-year career. After his retirement in 1991, Bob and Leone spent their winters in Mesa, AZ, and summers at the family cottage in Victoria Beach, MB. Bob and Leone had two children, James Robert and Laurel Elaine. Bob was a loving and devoted father and was an active supporter and keen fan of all of his children's activities. Bob was also involved in many different community affairs and organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the YMCA; on the Board of Governors for the University of Manitoba; and as President of the Riel Progressive Conservative Association. Bob enjoyed sports of all kinds. He took up running in 1960, which led to many successful marathons and half-marathons. He ran his last marathon at 55, but at 81 he was still enthusiastically running three to five miles several times a week. He loved curling and golfing, and never enjoyed that time more than when there were a few quarters wagered on the outcome! During the last years of his life Bob struggled with dementia. Characteristically, Bob refused to give in to this terrible disease, and he fought against it valiantly. He found great comfort in the loving care given to him by his wife, Leone, who was by his side when Bob's fight finally ended. Bob hoped, and his family hopes, that he will be remembered not only for the brave fight he put up against his disease in recent years, but especially as an energetic, vibrant, active and caring man who lived a long, happy and productive life full of good humour and a deep love for his family and many friends. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society of Canada. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • From Bill, Brendan, Bruce and Cathy (and our deceased parents Sean and Jean Kavanagh) Our sincere condolences to Leone and family. Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield were close friends of our parents and were the best man and maid-of-honor at Mom and Dad's wedding. They were friends for life, were there throughout our upbringing and we enjoyed many visits and holidays with them. We have fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield. There are too many stories to tell. We are very sorry for his passing and wish Mr's Mansfield the best. (Note: We were taught to respect our elders and to call them Mr. and Mrs. Later we did know them as Bob and Leone, but at this time of remembrance we would like to show them this sign of respect) - Posted by: Bill and Sheena Kavanagh (Family friends) on: Nov 11, 2015

  • My condolences to the Mansfield family. I had the pleasure of working with Robert at Great West Life. He was a great boss and I admired him very much. I was sad when he retired because it is always very hard to replace a great boss...he always took the time to hear what you had to say and he was always fair and honest. He was missed in the work place when he retired. I am sure he will be missed by all his family and friends. My deepest sympathies to all of you. May you find comfort in your fond memories of him. - Posted by: Karen Freund (Coworker) on: Nov 07, 2015
