GINO JOSEPH MAZZEI It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dad, Gino, on October 28, 2015. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons Matt (Cortney) and Ryan (Stacey), their mom Cindy, and his grandchildren Tyson and Bella. He was predeceased by his parents Maria and Frank, and is survived by sisters Julie, Enza and Cris, and their families. Dad was born in Poggio Bustone, Italy and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was three years old, settling in Transcona and residing there for most of his life. As a teenager he left school early to find work after his father passed away, working for a time at CN, Jerry's Transmission and driving a tow truck before finding his niche at the RM of Springfield, where he was employed for the last 37 years. The family would like to thank his co-workers and the paramedics for their quick actions and efforts. Respecting Gino's wishes cremation has taken place. A private family service will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gino's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or one of the local cat rescue shelters. Family and friends may sign the book of condolences at www.wheelerfuneral.com. Funeral Arrangements in Care of: Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street - 204-224-1525

  • I remember the day where Ryan told me to meet you, I was scared, as the year passed you became my dad, I'm so lost for words. the weekend before you passed we were sitting in your living room talking how we usually do, I asked how you were feeling you told me you were feeling okay but I knew that was a lie the way you looked at Bella as she jumped all over you, asking you if you had your fish head on the computer desk, still can't believe your gone, the kids talk about you every day, every time they see a front end loader they say My grandpa drives one of those, they are so proud of you, best Dad and Grandpa I could of ever ask for. So happy that I can call you my dad and will never forget you, till we meet again, love Stacey - Posted by: stacey (daughter in law ) on: Dec 18, 2015

  • I met gino over 18 years ago and we had a long relationship but being a single parent myself life was always so busy and we would go for months and not talk or see each other and Gino would say he should have married me when he had the chance. Im at a loss for words I thought this was just one of those busy times and he would text me one day and call me Gramma, my daughter is due any time. But when I found out this will never happen and he has left this world it was too late to say my good bye to that very special man that always made me laugh. I know he wasnt religious but god bless you Gino I will always love you . - Posted by: christine lusty (girlfriend) on: Dec 09, 2015

We sure had some good times and when I did see Gino later in our years we would reminisce and tell our stories.
