Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN SHIRLEY FOOT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian Shirley Foot (nee Pattie) at the Southeast Personal Care Home on November 5, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Shirley was born on December 18, 1922 to John and Annie Pattie. She was predeceased by her husband Morley, daughter Karen, sister Lena, her brothers, Jack, Roy, and Mitchell, and daughter-in-law Leslie. Shirley grew up in St. James where she attended Linwood School/St. James Collegiate. Always active in sports, she excelled in speed-skating and running hurdles as a young woman, and played on numerous curling teams at a very competitive level throughout the years. Shirley spent most of her life as a child at Grand Beach during the summer months, and then on 14th Avenue in Sandy Hook with Morley, where neighbours became lifelong friends. It apparently was quite an interesting ride in a Model T Ford on the old highways. Shirley married Morley in 1944 and after a while on Dorchester Street, moved back to St. James to Collegiate Street where they raised their children and played host to many friends and relatives. Shirley was in her prime while helping others, and having house guests was a way of life. Her hiding places for cookies did not stand a chance with five teenagers and friends in the house. Weekends and summers were spent at the lake and it was during those years one could hear the clanging of the horseshoes well into the evening as the McLennans, Tittertons, and Allens vied for the "trophy". During all of those years, Morley and Shirley also did a lot of travelling and visited Barbados, Florida, Africa, Australia, England and Scotland. Quite a few of those visits were to meet old family members, and some were just to see the world. Shirley worked as a secretary most of her life, both before marriage and children and again afterwards. Hudson Bay Mining was her first workplace, followed by Clark Equipment where she stayed until they moved to Montreal and then Oakville. Shirley loved working at Ciba-Geigy (Novartis) and made many good friends in those years. After retiring, they moved to Sandy Hook and stayed there until Morley's health took a turn for the worse. Shirley moved back to Winnipeg, via Stonewall, Charleswood, Sturgeon II and then Shaftsbury Park Residences. Shirley continued looking after others even after her own health was beginning to fail. As her dementia advanced, Shirley moved into the South East Personal Care Home on Lee Boulevard. It was at the SEPCH where she received excellent care from the staff and where Shirley lived her final days. Shirley has left behind her son Garry, daughter Diane, grandchildren Kristen (Hordyk) (Ron Bohemier), Jennifer (Greg) Vermette, Katherine (Travis) Paul, Gregory (Jacinta) Wellwood, Heather (Matt) Bourke, Trevor Harris (Jun Kim) and Scott Harris. Shirley also leaves behind great-grandchildren Kyle, Leah, Eric, Reese, Nathan, Simon, Landon and Jensen, sisters-in-law Ruth and Dorene Pattie, and son-in-law Lindsey Harris as well as numerous relatives across Canada. Shirley has been cremated and her ashes will be placed alongside Morley's at Chapel Lawn. There will be a private service for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

I am sad to know Aunt Shirley is gone. I always remember her warmth and big smile. She really lit up the room. Condolences to all those others who knew her from our family. Cheers Aunt Shirley! Henrie and I send our deepest sympathy to the family. Most of my memories center around cottage life at Sandy hook. As was mentioned above, the clang of horseshoes was a very common sound, especially in the evenings when the gang would gather in one of the back yards along 14th avenue. Shirley was always busy and had more energy than anyone I have known. One of my favourite memories is playing card games around their big table on the porch with the kids while Shirley would be busy making heaps of scrambled eggs and toast to fill us all up. We were living in Montreal at the same time as Shirley and Morley and during that time we visited frequently and spent many pleasant evenings together. Those are memories we will always cherish. Always warm and welcoming, Shirley was a vibrant and vital person who will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Heather (Joy) Snadden (old friend) on: Nov 08, 2015
