JOSEPH MAZUR December 13, 1935 - November 7, 2015 Having lived his life on his own terms, Joseph Mazur, age 79, left his earthly life on a bright, sunny November 7, 2015. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jacqueline Mazur, his children, Sandra Lorange (Claude), and Craig Mazur, and his three grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, and Amelia. There is a beginning and there is an end. During Joe's journey he lived his life in a genuine way and on his own terms. He was born to Polish immigrant parents and grew up to live the Canadian dream. He made his roots in Winnipeg, attending Kelvin High School, playing football for the Weston Wildcats, married Jacquie Rivalin, became a Chartered Accountant and had a 50 year career starting off in accounting firms and then ventured off to become president of bankrupt Ilford Riverton Airways, to eventually establish Air Manitoba; a carrier servicing northern Manitoba from 1971 to 1990. He was a good father and a better grandfather. He watched his grandchildren with pride. Making a living for himself and his wife was paramount to him. He did it fabulously. He was inherently stubborn and fueled to be successful. He lived generously and was generous. He was a guy who stuck by your side. He lived and partied hard. He was philanthropic and helped out where he saw a need. He was complicated. He was intelligent. As an accountant he could calculate columns of numbers in his head faster than a calculator. He wasn't perfect but he was authentic. He was hard working. He loved his Jackie to the moon and back. As his health and mobility declined, his energy did too, but his huge personality shone through to the end. Life became much simpler and confining but two important things remained; knowledge of his grandchildren's activities including information about his grandchildren, his kids, and his son-in-law Claude and playing the stock market. He was always hopeful that everyone would be successful in their lives. In the end he spoke of his life lived with candor, the future, his regrets. He said, "I'm getting confused, take care of your mom, I want to die now. Have a nice funeral and a good party". I said, "I love you", and he said, "I love you more". Special thanks to the incredible medical professionals that provided him with a greater quality of life in the past 14 years, Dr. Tanner, Dr. Harris, Dr. Guzman, Dr. Rabson, and Dr. Jacobs. A huge gratitude to the staff for end of life comfort care on the 4th floor at Victoria General Hospital, Vadim and Eva, Emelda, and Dr. Prenovault and especially his caregiver Rose from Home Instead. In a very complex medical practice of our time, these people are outstanding and amazing all at once. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice. Celebration of Joseph's life to be held today, Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A private interment will be held at a later date.
