NICOLAS (NICK) RODOLPHE SOURISSEAU October 21, 1945 - November 9, 2015 With great sadness we said goodbye to Nick on November 9, 2015, aged 70 years. Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba to Alice Félicie (née Pirotton) and Marc Pierre Sourisseau. Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Sharon Mooney, son Yanik (Melanie) Sourisseau, grandchildren Oscar and Mathilde, sister Lorraine Sourisseau, brother-in-law Leo Desrochers, and in-laws, Gerald (Joanne) Mooney, Walter (Gail) Mooney, Maureen (Gary) Hillman and Reg (Leisa) Wylie, as well as, many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Predeceased by both of his parents and sister Marcelle Desrochers. Nick was raised and received his formal education in St. Boniface. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Education degrees from the University of Manitoba. He began his working life teaching elementary school for four years and then pursued a 30 year career with the Manitoba Provincial Government. The first 17 years at the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage la Prairie, initially as Director of Education and secondly as Director of Human Resources. He then transferred to Winnipeg with the Community Services Division where he sequentially held the positions of Provincial Training Coordinator, Senior Policy Analyst, and Director of Community Living. He concluded his 30 year career with a secondment to the French Language Services Secretariat establishing bilingual government service centres. Nick was so much more than an employee. He retired in 2001 and enjoyed spending time at his summer home along the shores of Canyon Lake in N.W. Ontario, travelling, and eventually buying a home and wintering in Mesa, AZ. where many new friendships were created and where he rekindled his interest in guitar, singing, and amateur theatre. Nick's many interests included photography, music, writing, reading, woodworking, love of the outdoors, and volunteering for such organizations as the United Way, Portage and District Arts Centre, Wee World Day Care Centre, The Council for Exceptional Children, Fort Whyte Centre, the Lion's Club, and Pine Tree Pathways in Vermilion Bay, Ontario. He had a strong sense of community and felt that it was important to give back to the degree that one is capable. While retired Nick adopted a lifestyle including meditation practices which helped him acquire new personal skills and many new friends of like mind. Nick believed in "kindness, kindness, kindness." Nick always believed that how you live your life should not be harmful to others and that you should do whatever you can to make life better for other people and for the creatures that share this world with us. He was an avid supporter of various nature organizations including the David Suzuki Foundation and the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Donations to such organizations in lieu of flowers would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Nick's life will be planned for a future time. E.J. COUTU & CO. • I have such fond memories of growing up across the street from my cousins and Nick was always in the centre of our games. Although living far apart as adults, our occasional visits were always filled with laughter, poignant discussion and a shared appreciation for the benefits of meditation. Nick will be missed by many. Love goes out to all the family and friends affected by his death. - Posted by: Pam Terry (cousin) on: Nov 15, 2015

  • I'm so very sad to hear that Mr Sourisseau passed away. I went to school with Yanik and I remember his Dad always being very happy and kind, and excited share his experiences with us. I still have a peso he handed out to me and my classmates after a trip to Mexico. It was so exotic and I was so touched that he thought to share that with us. I kept it because it helps me remember that a small act of kindness can have a huge impact, even if you can't see the result. Thank you so much for your kindness. - Posted by: Tanya Hansen Pratt () on: Nov 14, 2015
