Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLUISE KUNST January 21, 1922- November 13, 2015 Passed away peacefully at Vista Park Lodge at the age of 93 years. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 69 years, Gerhard; son Dirk; daughter-in-law Betty; and grandsons Karsten, David and Branden. Luise was born and raised in Homberg, Germany until the age of 14 when she moved to Hanover to pursue further education. As a young adult she worked as an early childhood educator, which is how she met Gerhard. He was a young soldier performing foot patrol and they crossed paths while she was caring for her young charges. There were frequent "accidental" meetings until Gerhard left to serve in the war. She thought she would not see him again but they were reunited after the war and were married in October 1946. They chose to immigrate to Canada in 1953 and settled in Winnipeg. They found employment and raised their son. They were able to save enough money to build a cottage in Belair where many happy summers were spent. Upon retirement they discovered the joys of life as snowbirds with winters spent in St. Petersburg, Florida. This is where she decided to try parasailing, treating herself to the excursion on her milestone birthdays, the last time being for her 80th! During this time they chose to sell the cottage and make Shorepointe Village in Gimli their summer home. Age and inability to live independently saw them returning to Winnipeg. As per Luise's wishes, cremation and a private family gathering have taken place. Thanks to the staff of Vista Park Lodge where she had resided for the last three years, and our heartfelt thanks to family and friends for their thoughtful words and caring. Luise and I were expecting our first child at the same time and became good friends. We spent good times together at the beach and later at her cottage. It pleased the Lord to take her home and to end her suffering. I think her loved ones feel the same way. My thoughts are with them. Renate Nolius - Posted by: Renate Nolius (friend) on: Nov 21, 2015
