Date of Passing: Nov 21, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY REMPEL The family wishes to celebrate the life of Mary Rempel who passed into the presence of her Saviour Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Mary was born June 3, 1926 in Arkadak, Russia, the second of 11 children, of John and Helen Neufeld. The family immigrated to Canada in 1929, moving to the Boissevain area, thereafter settling on a farm near Griswold, Manitoba. She graduated from Grade 7, attended Bible School, took a sewing course and worked on the farm. Mary met and married the love of her life, John Rempel in 1952. They settled in Winnipeg and Mary worked in a sewing factory. In 1954 they started their family and built a home in Kirkfield Park. She carried on a sewing business in her home for many years. When Mary's father passed away in 1967, the family moved to the farm for a year to help. She obtained her grade 12 equivalency in 1983 and learned to swim at age 50. Mary worked as a plain-clothes special constable for Zellers and The Bay until her retirement. Retirement years were spent helping with grandchildren and her elderly mother and volunteering at the Agape Table and the Crisis Pregnancy Centre. She also regularly invited her neighbours to, and attended, the local Christian Women's Club. She and John took three wonderful trips together: to Hawaii, Portugal and Europe. Mary was a committed believer in her Lord Jesus Christ and loved Him faithfully her entire life. She and John were members of the First Mennonite Church since the time they married. Mary was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, one sister and a granddaughter, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by John, her loving husband of 63 years, daughter, Sharon Kennedy (Scott), son, John Rempel Jr. (Carla), grandchildren, Ryan Kennedy, Adam Kennedy, Micah Kennedy (Kristin), Laura Jane Boville (Jared), Marybeth Dirks (Stefan), and great-grandchildren Malakai, Titus and Eliza Boville. She is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, as well as numerous sisters and brothers-in-law. The family is very grateful for the exceptional and compassionate love and care she (and Dad) received the last three years from the staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home. A Celebration of her Life will be held Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Reception and interment to follow the service. Mom - We love you more! I just heard about the passing of Aunt Mary. My heart goes out to each and everyone of you. She truly was one of the most generous people I have known. It was always a treat to stop in to see Uncle John and Aunt Mary many years ago when we were in Winnipeg. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Connie (Neufeld) Metcalfe (Niece (parents:John & Anna Neufeld)) on: Dec 10, 2015

My Dear Aunty Mary - my favourite memories are visiting in your kitchen, and enjoying eating your delicious platz. Your platz was different than my Mom's. Both were yummy and I remember studying the differences in crust and sugar and fruit. This was very dedicated work on my part that involved a lot of taste testing to make the proper comparisons. You were very accomodating in my research! The back yard garden was magical and being out there with you and Uncle John and my Mom and Dad was a very special treat. My heart goes out to your family and friends. May we all find comfort in sweet memories. Love, Corinne - Posted by: Corinne Sandhurst (Niece) on: Nov 26, 2015

May God hold the Rempel Family in the loving palm of his hand. I enjoyed the talking Mary and John at the different events held at Calvary Place and seeing them at church. She is missed. - Posted by: Amy Persson and family (Friend at Calvary Place) on: Nov 25, 2015

I was sad to hear of Mrs. Rempel's sudden passing but rejoice to know she is Home in heaven. It was always a pleasure to visit with Mary and her devoted husband, John especially sitting in the gazebo outside with my Mom. Mary was very gracious and always appreciative of every little kindness. I enjoyed hearing stories of your life together. - Posted by: Rosalie Olson (Friend) on: Nov 24, 2015

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies on the passing of Mary. I always enjoyed visiting her during the day and practicing my Low German! I enjoyed calling her ''my little potato'' in low german and she would always respond by calling me her ''old onion.'' That will always be my favorite memory of Mary. I know that my ''kleine Adchuck'' is now making french fries in heaven All the best Helmut - Posted by: Helmut Plett (Friend) on: Nov 24, 2015
