NICK SHACHTAY It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, Nick Shachtay, on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Vista Park Lodge. At the age of 82 years, Nick leaves behind his wife, Frieda; daughters: Barb (Claude), Gale (Gerry) and Audrey (Ray); grandchildren: Kelly (Marci), Jeff (Tara), Jason (Tanya), Stephanie (Derrick), Jerrot (Amber), Aaron (Rebecca), Angela and Matt; great-grandchildren: Kylie, Calla, Bryce, Jada, Brody, Rayanne and Camrynn; as well as brothers: John, Stanley, Kaz, and sister-in-law, Nellie. Nick was predeceased by his son, Brock, mother, Agnes, father, Andrew, mother-in-law, Antolina, father-in-law, Louis, and several brothers and sisters-in law. Nick and Frieda were married for 59 and a half years while residing in Winnipeg. Nick's passion was fishing and making his own weights, jigs and pickerel rigs but he also enjoyed hunting, curling, playing pool, poker and other card games. He also took time to coach his children in baseball. As the family grew with each arrival of the grandchildren they were all known as cowboys and cowgirls. Then with the family growing even larger with each great-grandchild, Nick enjoyed sitting back with a smile on his face watching them play. We would like to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge who took great care of Nick while he lived at the residence for almost two years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Nick may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
