REGINALD (REG) MALANCHUK June 19, 1946 to November 22, 2015. With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather and uncle, Reginald William Malanchuk, at the Riverview Health Centre on November 22, 2015. Reg was predeceased by his parents William and Marjorie Malanchuk; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Alice and Dave Ross. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Patricia, children Nancy (Garth Smith), Dana (Andrew Allerton) and three precious grandchildren, Lachlan and Karisa Allerton and Riley Smith. He also leaves to mourn his sister Barbara (John Palmer); brothers Murray and Robert; nieces Sarah, Jane, Jaime, and nephew Kirk and many wonderful friends. Reg was born in Justice, Manitoba and grew up in Portage la Prairie. He spent many memorable summers with his aunt and cousins in Gladstone. Growing up, Reg enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and during high school developed his passion for the sport of curling. After graduation Reg moved to Winnipeg to further his education where he earned his CMA designation, and met his beloved wife Patricia. He started as an Accounting Student at Hare Gork Waters, and ended his 25 year service as Manager of the Computer Services Division for KPMG. In 1991 Reg developed his own practice in association with Hemenway Silver. Through this stage of his career he became the Auditor and Independent Trustee for the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation. Reg treasured his role as teacher and mentor, and he had an uncommon knack of becoming a special friend to all those who worked with him. Reg was dedicated to his family and friends. He had a passion for the game of curling, he truly loved to play and watch the sport. Since 1971 the Fort Rouge curling club was his home where he served on the Club Executive throughout the years, and developed numerous lifelong friendships. Reg was very proud of the summer cottage at Lake of the Woods, Ontario. He and Pat together built a wonderful retreat that allowed them the opportunity to enjoy countless hours with friends, family and most importantly share his time with his three beautiful grandchildren. It truly was his playground, and Reg became the master of do-it-yourself on the island. Throughout the illness he managed every challenge with dignity, class, humility and strength. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to CancerCare Manitoba and W.R.H.A. Palliative Care Program for their support and kindness. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. A Celebration of Reg's life will be held at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1006 Nairn Ave., (corner of Keenleyside and Nairn) on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to a time of reception and fellowship at 12:30 p.m. at the Fort Rouge Curling Club, 750 Daly St. S., Winnipeg. Condolences & Memories (17 entries)

  • I am truly sorry to hear of Reg’s passing. I had the good fortune to meet Reg when I joined Hare Gork & Watters (Thorne Gunn & Co) and he became my mentor. Reg always took the time to help, guide and make sure that you were ok. We curled together for a couple of years as juniors - Reg would pick me up 15 minutes before game time in his blue 56 Pontiac and we’d arrive a half hour late and Lorne Williams would be waiting and fuming. We always managed to win somehow - but through it all Reg was as relaxed and calm as could be. Reg was a gentleman and a great competitor and someone you could always depend on - a true friend. My condolences to Patty, Dana, Nancy and families. - Posted by: Bill Walsh (Co-worker, curling friend from days past) on: Dec 23, 2015

I have fond memories of him at the rink, always to be counted on as a great fan - his support and love for you all was so evident. Glad I got to experience your beautiful place and hospitality at LOTW, and hope that you will have many more memories there yet where you will take comfort in his presence and spirit. - Posted by: Janine (Sigurdson) Turnbull (Curling Friend) on: Dec 01, 2015

  • We are so saddened to learn of Reg’s passing. So many wonderful memories: Thorne Gunn student parties, noon-hour strolls down Portage Avenue, (or card games in the office), car rallies, inter-office football/baseball games, spring mixed bonspiels (with the bumblebee sweaters), Saturday morning golf at Wildewood, SEX nights (South-end curling EXecutives) and many others that raise a fond smile. While life’s circumstances have a way of causing friends to drift apart, it was so great to reconnect with Reg, Pat and their family last December through grandsons’ hockey games. We are unable to be in Winnipeg to attend Reg’s funeral but, Pat, Nancy and Dana, you will be in our thoughts. Our heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Earl and Pat Ray (Long-time friends) on: Nov 26, 2015

  • I have many great memories from working with Reg at KPMG. Reg always had a smile on his face and great sense of humour. He loved his family, and was proud of his 2 his daughters, often mentioning them. Our little office felt like one big family, we owe a lot of that to Reg. My condolences to Pat, Nancy, Dana and family. - Posted by: Patti Clarkson (co-worker at KPMG) on: Nov 26, 2015

  • Reggie spent many hours at our farm in Gladstone , Always cheerful and wanting to ride the horses. One moment I remember was when he rode the horse into the barn and forgot to duck ending up on the ground unhurt other than is dignity. Although our paths didn t cross often in the last decade,I always enjoyed the time we had . To Patty and her family please take care and enjoy your fathers and Grandfathers memories - Posted by: Geoff Chandler (1st cousin) on: Nov 26, 2015

  • On behalf of Joanne and Ryan, let me express our deep sorrow on the passing of our beloved great friend, Reg. Early in our accounting careers Reg and I became the best of friends while working in the same office. During these years of friendship, Reg acted as our Best Man at our wedding and, he and Pat agreed to be the guardian to our son Ryan. During these past 50 years, we could fill a book of anecdotes about our family experiences at our homes and at the Lake of the Woods. All of these experiences ended with a lot of laughter and hugs and kisses. What a thrill to see Reg enjoying himself with Pat at our son's grad dinner earlier this year. Also very special was seeing him enjoying himself at the annual St. Nick's Sportsmen Dinner which he and I had not missed many over the past 50 years. As we cannot be there with you on Friday Pat, take care of yourself and embrace your family for us. We will see you soon. We love you, Reg and your family dearly and express our sorrow. Love, Ron, Joanne and Ryan Kuhtey - Posted by: Ron, Joanne and Ryan Kuhtey (long time friends) on: Nov 25, 2015
