Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN WHITEHILL With profound sadness and much love we announce the peaceful passing of Lillian Whitehill on November 17, 2015. Lillian is survived by her loving husband, Peter, with whom she shared over 71 years of marriage. Their mutual devotion over the years is an inspiration to all who knew them. She is also survived by her son Don and wife Lorene, daughter Donna Shaddock and husband Mark; four grandchildren, Jeff Shaddock (Candace), great-granddaughter Elizabeth and great-grandson Nicholas, Steve Shaddock (Andrea Monahan), Laurel Whitehill (Pier-Luc Savaria) and Ariel Whitehill (Mike Zirino); sister-in-law, Doreen Whitehill, and several cousins, a niece and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her parents Harold and Daisy Morley, her sister Audrey Keenes, and beloved daughter Valerie. Lillian was born in Winnipeg on June 10, 1923 and grew up in Transcona. Following her school years she worked at several jobs including MacDonald Aircraft where she met Peter during the Second World War. Lillian and Peter were married on February 26, 1944 shortly before he was sent overseas with the R.C.A.F. On his return from service they raised their family on Castle Avenue in Elmwood and then on Moncton Avenue in East Kildonan. In 2009 they moved to Concordia Village where they made many good friends among both residents and staff. Lillian and Peter experienced difficult and tragic times early in their marriage but they bravely faced their challenges together and drew closer because of them. Lillian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enthusiastically supported her children and grandchildren in all of their activities and interests and especially encouraged them to further their education. She was so very proud of them all. Many happy times were spent at the family cottage at Ingolf. Lillian and Peter also enjoyed many road trips across Canada and the US as well as trips to England and Scotland to visit family. Lillian was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Blue Jays. She was very talented at knitting and crocheting and delighted in presenting family members with many beautiful, handmade gifts over the years. Lillian's greatest talent, however, was her ability to make friends. Her warm, caring smile and genuine interest in everyone she met drew people to her throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank Dr. Grant Goldberg, the home care staff at Concordia Village and the staff of N3West at Concordia Hospital for the excellent care given to Lillian. In accordance with Lillian's wishes no formal service will be held. A private family reception in her honour has taken place. If desired, donations in Lillian's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
