PATRICIA JEAN SMITH (nee JOHNSTONE) 1954 - 2015 Suddenly, but peacefully, surrounded with the love and support of her son Dean, Pat passed away on November 18, 2015, at the age of 61 at the Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents Christopher and Aileen Johnstone and sister Pam Dean. Pat will be fondly remembered by her loving family and many dear friends as the quick witted and funny person that she was. Pat grew up in River Heights attending Sir John Franklin, J.B. Mitchell and Kelvin High, where she met many life long friends. She worked for forty-one years for the succession of airlines that came to form Air Canada, working in reservations, accounting and eventually at the airport. She enjoyed time with her colleagues behind the scenes at the airport, especially the humour of the many strange and sometimes challenging interactions they faced. Numerous vacations around the world, including favourites to Hawaii, England, and Banff, were always wonderful experiences and fond memories. So too were excursions for camping, out to the farm near Brandon and the beautiful Rockies for ski vacations. Pat loved visiting friends' cottages on Lake Winnipeg, especially girls' weekends and taking along her beloved Labrador Rocky. She tried her hand at various activities including curling and bowling, loved attending concerts and the theatre, and always enjoyed family dinners and barbecues. Those fortunate enough to spend time with her in her last days were amused, as always, by a spattering of one-liners making the best of the moment. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their extraordinary compassion and care during this difficult time. The thoughtful services of CancerCare Manitoba were also a comfort to Pat during her earlier treatments, a kindness she was especially grateful for. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue followed by a Celebration of Pat's life in the adjoined reception hall. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I feel so bad to know this news of Pat's passing. I met Pat when I started with the airline in reservations. I met up with Pat again at the Winnpeg airport after a transfer from Calgary. She was good to work with and I know the quick one liners that are refered to. I hope Pat did not have to endure immense suffering. To all that knew Pat, I send my condolences to you. - Posted by: jill palmer nee mcwhinney (co worker) on: Nov 29, 2015
