JEAN ELIZABETH ENGEN August 22, 1943 December 5, 2015 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother at her home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 51 years, Ed, her son Brian (Jan), daughter Katherine (Scott), grandchildren Justin, Mitchell, Danica and Jean. She is also survived by two sisters Mary Hlusko (Ottawa) and Emily Yates (Winnipeg), along with many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her parents Steve and Elizabeth Jancik (Flin Flon), her brother John (Calgary) and sister Anne (Chace, B.C.) Jean loved her husband, her daughter and son, her four beautiful grandchildren, her sisters, Dr. Jan, Scottie Boy, her Moose, the Jets, Il Devo, curling, Thomas Kincade pictures, jigsaw puzzles, reading, movies, tea (English Breakfast please), her close dear friends Connie and Nancy, Bon Jovi, Christmas, her husband's veggie and flower gardens, Neil Diamond, computer games, ABBA, Susan Boyle, making cabbage rolls and stuffed peppers at Christmas, baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren, the daily Free Press crossword and a good glass (or two) of white wine. Jean loved to travel; she and her husband Ed attended many Briers, Olympic curling trials and Scotties in Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Ottawa, Halifax and Winnipeg. Her favorite trip was a three month visit to New Zealand and Australia in 1994. Second, was a 40 day and 40 night tour of the United States. Her favorite city was San Francisco; however she found dining outdoors with seagulls very distasteful. She expressed her displeasure by uttering a few "Jeanisms" at the gulls like "Oh My Goodness." Jean was a hardworking and dedicated person. She worked 42 years for various Provincial and Federal Government departments in Flin Flon, The Pas and Winnipeg. Her longest tour of duty was with Indian and Northern Affairs and as a Human Resource Manager with Health Canada until retirement. Jean was a loyal and caring friend. She was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She simply loved and adored her four grandchildren. She was a loving close friend to her daughter, she was our rock. It is going to be difficult going on without her. Rest in Peace Jean, we love you and are going to miss you every day. The family would like to thank the Firemen and Paramedics for their prompt response and valiant efforts, your professionalism was noted and appreciated. Much thanks. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will take place on January 7, 2016 at Thomson "In The Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd. at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be forwarded to your favorite charity in Jean's name. • My sincere condolences for your loss. I worked with Jean at HC. She and I sat on the opposite side of a conference table many times. I represented Union and she represented Management. We butted heads a few times, but it was never serious and we always came to a conclusion together that appeased both sides. She was a wonderful lady to work with, answered many questions for me and guided me in the right direction several times. I'm going to miss her. - Posted by: Monique Willman (Co-worker) on: Jan 08, 2016

  • My heart still aches for your family. I have been fortune enough to have many wonderful memories of your Mom and Dad. As a teen playing soccer for many years with Katherine. Jean and Ed never hesitated to drive many of us girls to every game in their van. Often treating us to icecream after and sharing praise of our strengths and highlights of the game. Then to have moved across from them 20 yrs ago and have our daughter play with their granddaughter Danica in Ed's custom pool. With Jean always watching over the kids and Ed making them laugh. Jean's wonderful smile lives on in her children and grandchildren. - Posted by: Christine Shier (Neighbour ) on: Dec 13, 2015
