GWENETH LORRAINE PAINTIN February 15, 1947 - December 4, 2015 It is with a heavy heart and many tears that we announce that Lori, as she liked to be called, lost her battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family on December 4, 2015 in the palliative care section of St. Boniface Hospital and left this world peacefully with a quiet dignity and courage that she had always inspired others with. We will try to take some of the courage, love and determination that she tackled life to help raise her family and instill values in her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sons Richard (Suzanne) and Jason and two grandchildren Christina and Malcolm. She will also be missed by the many friends she had from her years working for Revenue Canada and the people she saw daily as she worked out religiously at the Rady Fitness Centre. Though she never took credit for many things, Mum showed what it is to love your children and your family and to never take for granted that you have them. Though she hated the cold she would routinely freeze herself watching her children play hockey as they played outdoors in the old days. She never missed an event for her children and grandchildren who were such a source of pride for her. She told her sons that devotion to training and hard work at the gym inspired her to take up working out and training at the age of 60 which she did with the utmost fervor. More importantly from the perspective as how her courage, love and devotion inspired her children to be the best husband, father and brother that they could be throughout their lives. We would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care unit of St. Boniface Hospital as they did a truly wonderful job caring for Mum after she was hospitalized in such a difficult time. One time in particular they allowed Lori to have her granddaughter Christina to stay overnight for a sleepover. They rigged an oxygen tank and walker for them to get around the hospital for adventures while her energy held out. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association.
